About The Position

NorthStar, a division of Harris, is seeking a Director of Product to lead the Product organization within R&D. This role reports to the VP of R&D and will manage a team of five Product Managers, Product Owners, and Subject Matter Experts across the company's product portfolio, including CIS7, Customer portal, Mobile workforce management system, and adjacent products. The company is looking for a leader to establish a mature Product operating system, improving processes for intake, discovery, prioritization, roadmap communication, and outcome measurement. The success of this role will be measured by the quality of product decisions and the predictability of delivery. This is a remote role open to candidates in Canada and the US, requiring approximately 20% travel. Preference will be given to candidates who can work in the EST timezone.

Requirements

  • 10+ years in Product Management, including 5+ years leading Product teams.
  • A track record of shipping products customers actually value.
  • Experience building or maturing a Product operating model in a scaling organization.
  • Strong product instincts and the ability to explain product decisions.
  • Executive communication skills and the ability to influence without authority.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Hold a current, valid passport and be legally eligible to travel internationally.
  • Comfortable using AI-enabled technologies as part of everyday work while maintaining appropriate judgment, security, and compliance standards.

  • Direct experience in the utilities industry.
  • Familiarity with utility operations, regulatory context, and the vendors and customers in this space.

Responsibilities

  • Lead customer discovery, validate problems before committing engineering resources, define success metrics upfront, and measure realized value after release.
  • Set the standard for well-reasoned product decisions.
  • Design and implement repeatable yet lightweight intake, discovery, prioritization, roadmap, and governance processes.
  • Coach five product professionals into strategic product leaders, establishing clear roles and accountability.
  • Build a culture of ownership, curiosity, and customer focus.
  • Partner with Engineering, Professional Services, Sales, Support, and executive leadership to improve forecast accuracy and communicate roadmap decisions clearly.
  • Leverage emerging technologies, including AI tools, to improve workflows, solve problems, and increase efficiency.
