Director of Product Management

Learning Ally Inc•Princeton, NJ
•$170,000 - $200,000

About The Position

Learning Ally is seeking a hands-on Director of Product Management to lead product management for its two core products: the reading platform used by students and educators and the audiobook catalog that supports it. The role owns the full product lifecycle—from discovery and prioritization through roadmap, design, development, and delivery—and operates with a high degree of independence. Reporting to the Chief Product Officer, the Director translates strategy into defined work for Engineering and production partners, brings a clear point of view on what to build and why, and mentors a Product Manager. The Director leads product strategy and prioritization, manages delivery for the Reader, educator and administrator experiences, and integrations, and partners with Title Production to ensure books and the platform work together effectively. The role also collaborates with customer-facing and academic teams, communicates releases, gathers and acts on customer evidence, and establishes lightweight product practices focused on outcomes.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of product management experience, including end-to-end product ownership in a B2B or B2B2C SaaS or education technology environment.
  • Ability to work independently across discovery, prioritization, roadmap development, design partnership, requirements, delivery, and launch.
  • Strong product judgment, including setting goals, articulating rationale, and connecting work to business outcomes.
  • Experience directing external or offshore development partners and holding them to quality standards.
  • Familiarity with K-12 ecosystems, including LMS platforms, LTI 1.3, and rostering standards such as OneRoster, Clever, and ClassLink.
  • Working knowledge of accessibility standards, including WCAG and EPUB Accessibility, and assistive reading technology.
  • Experience mentoring or managing product managers.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with content or media products such as digital publishing, audiobooks, or EPUB, or with content production pipelines.
  • Passion for accessibility, structured literacy, or mission-driven education technology.

Responsibilities

  • Translate company and Chief Product Officer strategy into an outcome-based roadmap for the reading platform and title catalog, with explicit goals and rationale for major investments.
  • Conduct continuous discovery with students, educators, and district administrators, using usage data, support signals, and customer feedback to identify and prioritize problems.
  • Make and explain tradeoffs among new capabilities, platform stability, and catalog investment.
  • Own requirements, user flows, and acceptance criteria for the Reader, educator and administrator experiences, and LMS and rostering integrations.
  • Partner with Design, Engineering, and external development partners from concept through release; shape scope, resolve ambiguity, run user acceptance testing, and manage release readiness.
  • Serve as the primary product contact for vendor engineering teams and hold them accountable for quality, versioned releases, and root cause analysis.
  • Guide customers through platform modernization, keeping migration milestones on track and making the transition from legacy experiences clear.
  • Partner with the Title Production team to define title quality, including narration, EPUB structure, accessibility, and metadata.
  • Connect the audiobook catalog and platform so books and the Reader function as one experience for students and educators.
  • Represent the product to Sales, Marketing, Customer Success, and Academic Leadership through release communications, enablement, and input on packaging.
  • Bring customer evidence into decisions and communicate to field teams what shipped and why.
  • Manage and mentor a Product Manager, developing their skills in discovery, requirements, and delivery.
  • Establish lightweight product practices, including roadmap reviews, success metrics, and launch checklists, that emphasize outcomes over process.
