SUMARIA SYSTEMS LLC•,
•$130,000 - $170,000•Remote

About The Position

Sumaria Systems is looking for a seasoned Director of Pricing who can own the numbers, understand the market, lead the team, navigate the ambiguity, and keep a proposal moving when the clock is ticking. If you’re deadline-driven, detail-obsessed, analytically sharp, competitively curious, and capable of managing actual humans while simultaneously wrestling a complicated pricing model into submission, we’d like to meet you. In short: you make the numbers work, you know what the market is doing, and you make sure we’re not pricing in a vacuum.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive pricing, cost analysis, proposal pricing, competitive intelligence, or related experience, in the defense/government contracting industry.
  • Experience leading pricing efforts for complex government proposals.
  • Demonstrated ability to research and interpret competitive intelligence and translate market information into pricing strategy.
  • Strong understanding of government contracting pricing concepts and cost structures.
  • Exceptional attention to detail. Obsessive is acceptable. Recommended, even.
  • Strong working knowledge of Government contracting and federal solicitations.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project), SharePoint, and Adobe.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Skilled at researching and extracting information from commercial and internal databases.

Nice To Haves

  • “That should be close enough” makes you physically uncomfortable.
  • You can spot a broken formula from across the room.
  • You enjoy solving problems that don't come with clean answers.
  • You can simultaneously manage the big picture and obsess over the fourth decimal place.
  • You know that good pricing requires knowing both your numbers and your competitors.
  • You enjoy digging through contracts, public data, industry intelligence, and other breadcrumbs to figure out what the market is really doing.
  • You can turn a pile of seemingly unrelated information into a clear recommendation for leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Lead pricing activities for competitive proposals, contract bids, modifications, and other government opportunities.
  • Develop and review cost and pricing models, including labor, indirect rates, material, ODCs, escalation, fee, and pricing assumptions.
  • Own competitive intelligence and pricing research to understand competitors, market dynamics, historical pricing, contract awards, customer buying behavior, and relevant industry trends.
  • Analyze available competitive data to develop informed pricing strategies and identify where we can differentiate, where we need to be aggressive, and where we should hold the line.
  • Monitor competitor behavior, including contract wins, recompetes, teaming arrangements, capabilities, pricing signals, and market positioning.
  • Inform corporate processes and policies to drive cost competitiveness.
  • Build and maintain competitive pricing benchmarks and historical data to inform future bids and business decisions.
  • Partner with Business Development, Contracts, Finance, Program Management, and Operations to translate competitive intelligence into actionable pricing strategy.
  • Own the pricing schedule and drive everyone else to meet it. Politely. Firmly. Repeatedly.
  • Review proposal inputs with the intensity of someone who has been personally offended by an incorrect decimal.
  • Identify pricing risks, inconsistencies, missing data, and questionable assumptions before they become someone else's problem.
  • Prepare pricing analyses, competitive assessments, management briefings, and proposal documentation that can survive scrutiny.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop other pricing professionals. because apparently you're good at both numbers and people.
  • Establish and improve pricing processes, tools, templates, competitive intelligence databases, and best practices.
  • Stay current on relevant government contracting, cost principles, solicitation requirements, pricing regulations, industry trends, and competitive activity.
