About The Position

The Director of Philanthropy (DOP) is a strategist, consultant and implementer who proposes, develops, and directs fundraising goals and strategic priorities for Three Square Food Bank. The DOP works closely with the Chief Development Officer (CDO) and others to develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy to expand financial and in-kind support for Three Square. The DOP leads a team charged with the responsibility of securing philanthropic support and revenue from corporations, foundations, and individuals. The DOP ensures the programmatic work is a collaborative and a well-integrated effort within philanthropy and across the organization. They focus on annual and long-range strategic priorities, advance the food bank’s goals, and communicate a broad vision to others. The DOP is responsible for managing, soliciting and stewarding a mixed portfolio of individuals, corporations, community organizations, and foundation donors and prospects. The DOP creates and executes integrated, growth-oriented plans that align with the strategic direction of the organization.

Requirements

Minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in a complex fundraising environment.
Demonstrated leadership capacity; management style that builds alliances within the organization and emphasizes a multi-disciplinary approach, high ethical standards, collegiality and effective teamwork.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
Donor Perfect (or relevant CRM) database experience preferred.
Appreciation of and commitment to Three Square’s mission and the ability to effectively communicate it.
Demonstrated experience soliciting major gifts and engaging with donors.
Ability to Solve complex problems, build high-functioning systems, identify opportunities, and anticipate potential challenges and threats.
Impeccable managerial and interpersonal skills with strong aptitude for relationship building and management.
Proven track record of effectively interacting with senior management.
Ability to work strategically and collaboratively across departments.
Strong project management and/or facilitation skills.
Effective, versatile and action-oriented.
Excellent communication skills, including both verbal and written. Ability to perform and communicate in a highly professional manner.
Ability to work and communicate with a wide range of people -- vendors, the public, leadership, influential donors, and others.
Ability to write, edit and proofread written materials for use with donor solicitations, member communications, and special events.
Highly organized with great attention to detail.
Curiosity, coupled with strong research/analytical skills.

Responsibilities

Manage a mixed portfolio of high value donors and individual, corporate, and foundation prospects.
Review and assign donors to relationship managers.
Manage appropriate maintenance of donor and other constituent data in Donor Perfect.
Lead and/or assist in special projects and campaigns including signature events to achieve revenue and engagement goals.
Manage relationships with community members who support or may support the Food Bank financially, working to engage these individuals, corporations, and foundations more deeply over time.
Facilitate and support fundraising efforts by staff, board, and other volunteers.
Establish and maintain a close relationship with the Director of Philanthropy Operations (DPO) to foster and identify potential donors, develop stewardship strategies and ensure financial and in-kind donations are acknowledged and tracked according to industry’s best practices.
Establish philanthropic vision, set strategy and operating goals that align with and provide resources to support the annual work plan of the organization.
Lead and participate in budget planning process.
Create, implement, and lead annual fundraising plan to meet the Food Bank’s financial goals.
Lead and participate in performance management process.
Create and implement systems and processes for relationship management and recognition.
Define and regularly report on annual development metrics for fund development team.
Lead and participate in strategic planning process - executing and revising plans as needed.
Define needs for, develop strategies, and manage functional areas within the development team.
Collaboratively and effectively partner with the Marketing & Philanthropy team as well as the Volunteer team to integrate activities, philanthropic initiatives, and key messages.
Lead and model organizational values and participate in appropriate groups, meetings, sessions, trainings as needed.
Serve as a key representative of the Food Bank in the community.
Supervise a team of philanthropy staff engaged in forward-facing relationship building and relationship management.
Ensure team completes all required HR trainings and development opportunities.
Formal staff supervision and informal check ins as needed to advance work and promote a culture that reflects the values of the organization.
Day to day supervision of team and participate in cross-functional team meetings as well as leadership and revenue team meetings.
Execute the performance management process ensuring that each direct report is evaluated on an annual basis and that informal feedback is a norm and delivered as needed.
