About The Position

The Tucson Convention Center, including the Tucson Arena, Linda Ronstadt Music Hall, and Leo Rich Theater, has an opening for a skilled Director of Operations. This role directs, supervises, and schedules all aspects of Operations, including Engineering, Building and Grounds, Technical Services including ADA compliance, Public Safety, Security, and Custodial Services. The Director of Operations coordinates with other departments and event contractors to ensure facility readiness and smooth event operations. This position involves implementing and updating facility rules, regulations, policies, and procedures, and ensuring clear communication of directives. The role also ensures the Operations Department has the necessary tools and supplies through fiscally responsible procurement, and oversees the maintenance of the Physical Plant, systems, equipment, and vehicles. Additionally, the Director of Operations assists in budget preparation, recommends capital budgets, provides forecast updates, and authorizes requisitions within budget guidelines. A yearly inventory of all equipment is required. The position ensures compliance with all laws, codes, ordinances, policies, procedures, Risk Management, safety precautions, rules/regulations, and emergency procedures. A program to train all employees on Fire/Life Safety, Emergency, and OSHA Procedures will be developed. The Director investigates, analyzes, and resolves operational problems and complaints, and conducts staff meetings. Overseeing the creation, implementation, and improvement of job-specific on-boarding and training programs for all operations personnel is also a key responsibility. The role works closely with the General Manager and Assistant General Manager in preparing and negotiating Service Agreements, reviews contracts for compliance, and negotiates with vendors, unions, contractors, and service providers. Developing and implementing preventive maintenance schedules, emergency procedures, safety, and Risk Management policies in compliance with corporate and governmental regulations is crucial. The Director acts as a liaison to public utility, environmental, and energy agencies and assists the GM in implementing energy-saving guidelines. Coordination and oversight of special projects, such as construction, remodeling, or expansion, and directing outside vendors/contractors are also part of the role. The Director will serve as MOD (Manager on Duty) as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from technical college with major in Management or Maintenance Engineering.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in Supervising or Managing in a similar facility.
  • Additional experience may be substituted for education.
  • Supervisory experience required.
  • Excellent organization skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Good written, verbal, and interpersonal skills required; ability to interact with all levels of staff including management.
  • Ability to effectively supervise staff.
  • Professional presentation, appearance, and work ethic.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel and must be able to learn Maintenance Manager software program.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and as a team member.
  • Requires ability to work flexible and extended hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, in addition to normal business hours.

Responsibilities

  • Directs, supervises, and schedules all aspects of Operations, including Engineering, Building and Grounds, Technical Services including ADA compliance, Public Safety, Security, and Custodial Services.
  • Coordinates the Operations activities with other departments and event related contractors to assure facility readiness and smooth operation of events.
  • Implements and updates facility rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Provides clear, concise, and timely communication of directives to other departments.
  • Ensures that Operations Department receives pertinent information for the most effective use of the facility and staffing.
  • Ensures that each operations department manager has the tools and supplies needed to do their jobs through fiscally responsible procurement.
  • Oversees maintenance of the Physical Plant, systems, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Assists in the preparation of the Annual Operating Budget and recommends a capital budget for 1-year and 5-year long-range repairs and improvements to the facility.
  • Liaises with Finance to provide accurate and timely forecast updates, as requested.
  • Authorizes the requisition of equipment and supplies within budget guidelines.
  • Provides yearly inventory of all equipment.
  • Knows and ensures all laws, codes, ordinances, policies, procedures, Risk Management, safety precautions, rules/regulations and emergency procedures are followed.

  • Serves as MOD (Manager on Duty) as required.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with all Legends Global policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
