About The Position

Banyan Treatment Centers is seeking an experienced Director of Nursing (RN) to provide clinical and operational leadership for nursing services within our inpatient behavioral health and substance use treatment program. This onsite leadership role oversees nursing operations, regulatory compliance, interdisciplinary collaboration, and staff development to ensure safe, effective, patient-centered care. Reporting directly to the site’s Executive Director and National Director of Nursing, the Director of Nursing will serve as a visible, hands-on leader with the professionalism, clinical credibility, and executive presence to lead a high-acuity treatment environment. The facility in Baldwinville, MA provides a full continuum of care across both substance use disorder (SUD) and mental health (MH) treatment tracks, including medically monitored detoxification (ASAM 3.7), clinical stabilization services (ASAM 3.5), residential treatment, and a SAMHSA-certified Opioid Treatment Program. The program operates as a DMH residential site and is fully ASAM Level of Care certified for Levels 3.5 and 3.7. Current operations include 72 total beds across detox, SUD residential, and MH residential services, with continued expansion planned across residential and behavioral health services. Make a direct impact on patient outcomes by leading nursing practice, supporting staff development, and maintaining accreditation standards. Lead and mentor nursing teams within a high-acuity setting that includes detoxification, residential substance use treatment, and mental health services. Help shape a culture of accountability, collaboration, professionalism, and clinical excellence while supporting continued program growth and operational expansion.

Requirements

  • Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state required.
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing; ASN required, BSN or MSN preferred.
  • Minimum five (5) years of progressive nursing leadership experience with responsibility for staff supervision, operations, performance management, and departmental outcomes.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in behavioral health and/or mental healthcare settings; substance use treatment experience strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of nursing standards of care for patients with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders.
  • Experience with Joint Commission standards, state and federal regulations, DEA requirements, and healthcare compliance practices.
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and hold teams accountable within a regulated healthcare environment.
  • Strong operational leadership skills with the ability to manage staffing, workflow, and patient care delivery in a fast-paced inpatient setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with executive leadership, medical providers, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and documentation skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to balance administrative responsibilities with hands-on clinical oversight and leadership presence.
  • Commitment to patient safety, regulatory excellence, and trauma-informed care practices.

Responsibilities

  • Provide operational and clinical leadership for all nursing services within a high-acuity behavioral health and substance use treatment environment.
  • Lead, mentor, and evaluate nursing staff to ensure accountability, professional development, and adherence to clinical and scope-of-practice standards.
  • Oversee daily nursing operations including staffing, scheduling, documentation, medication management, and patient care coordination.
  • Collaborate with medical providers, clinical teams, and executive leadership to support integrated, patient-centered care for individuals with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders.
  • Ensure compliance with Joint Commission standards, state and federal regulations, DEA requirements, infection control protocols, and organizational policies.
  • Support quality assurance, regulatory readiness, audits, and performance improvement initiatives to maintain clinical excellence and patient safety.
  • Develop and implement nursing policies, staff training, orientations, competencies, and ongoing education programs.
  • Foster a professional, collaborative, and trauma-informed culture across nursing and interdisciplinary teams.
