Reporting to the General Manager, the Director of Human Resources serves as the on-ground Human Resources subject matter expert at the Resort. The Director of Human Resources will align HR initiatives and functions with the business objectives and needs. These responsibilities will be performed in a manner consistent with the mission, vision, operating philosophies and standards of Silver Dollar City and Herschend. Additionally, the ideal candidate will be able to display and live out Lead with Love qualities, strongly rooted in the Silver Dollar City culture, by being patient, kind, humble, respectful, trusting, unselfish, truthful, forgiving, dedicated and accountable.

Requirements

  • Minimum 7 years’ progressive human resources experience, including 3 years in a leadership role
  • Degree in employee relations, human resources, organizational development, or business preferred
  • PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certification preferred
  • Hospitality experience or experience in a business with a large seasonal staff required
  • Experience opening a hotel or leading HR during new property launch is highly desirable
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office projects (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc). Knowledge of HRIS systems; experience with UKG, Workday, or similar platforms preferred
  • Thorough understanding of state and federal laws concerning labor relations. Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies
  • Understanding of hotel operations and the impact HR decisions have on service delivery, guest satisfaction, and financial performance
  • Proven ability to build relationships across all levels of an organization and influence without authority
  • Exceptional interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills with the ability to connect at all levels of the organization, from line-level hosts to executives
  • Experience managing complex employee relations and change management processes. Thorough understanding of negotiation techniques and dispute resolution.
  • Highly organized, strong organizational and project management skills with attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and complete work assignments on a timely basis
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, customer-facing environment
  • Culturally savvy and inclusive with demonstrated success in fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends or holidays
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check

Responsibilities

  • Lead all HR functions for the property, including recruiting, onboarding, performance management, employee relations, training, benefits administration, and compliance.
  • Manage Pre-Opening Critical Path process, ensuring milestones are achieved in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to create solutions that meet the needs of the organization, including organizational structure, HR systems and business processes, and ensure the services provided meet the needs of the organization, hosts and the operating teams
  • Partner with Silver Dollar City HR leaders to define shared services programming in areas of talent acquisition, onboarding, training, benefits, HRIS administration, and host engagement. Act as owner of shared services agreement and ensure both parties are aligned and adhering to agreed performance levels
  • Lead the host relations activities, including ensuring leaders at all levels understand and implement company policies related to performance, discipline, and related topics; conduct internal investigations and recommend actions to be taken by leadership. Ensure awareness of disciplinary actions between lodging and park properties.
  • Serve as an advocate for the hosts in their use of the open-door policy to provide objective analysis of each situation, and make recommendations and decisions to resolve the issues at hand to ensure fair and consistent treatment by management in the workplace
  • Build strong relationships and act as in-house support with leadership throughout the company and work as a proponent of Lead with Love principles. Ensure all leaders within the company are trained with relevant coaching and employee relation skills and best practices for holding hosts accountable for job expectations
  • Keep property leaders current on HR-related projects, priorities, training opportunities, and goals
  • Follow up with property leaders as necessary to ensure HR-related deadlines are met
  • Analyze a variety of HR metrics to identify opportunities for improvement. Recommend and partner with operators to implement tactics to achieve improved results
  • Counsel leadership and hosts on applicable Equal Employment Opportunity laws including Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, and other federal and state laws. Manage risk and compliance for the company
  • Partner with the talent acquisition leaders in the development and implementation of marketing, sourcing, recruiting, selection, and onboarding practices in compliance with federal, state, and company policies, to staff assigned Resort in accordance with business needs
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with the hiring managers to support and serve staffing needs. Act as the talent acquisition liaison and advocate for Resort
  • Partner with operators to review hiring metrics and business demand to determine staffing needs and partner with talent acquisition to ensure needs are being met
  • Administer exempt wages for Resort according to corporate guidance. This includes coordination of bonus plans and grading for pay and job level.
  • Drive annual performance evaluation process for all hourly hosts at the Resort. Lead annual performance process for all exempt hosts at the Resort, including acting as trainer, consultant, and coach for leaders.
  • Lead the talent management activities at the Resort such as talent identification, succession planning, and development plans
  • Hire, train, and oversee the work of HR team at the resort
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state labor laws and Company policies and procedures Including the compliance and auditing of required posters and notices at the Resort
  • Prepare budgetary recommendations and assist in monitoring, verifying and reconciling budgeted funds
  • Participate in business planning activities such as strategic planning, Business Plan and People Plan creation and presentations
  • Ensure that HR assistance is available to lodging hosts for general inquiries, HR-related forms and processes, and resolving questions about Company programs and policies.
  • Lead the planning and managing day of appreciation, recognition, and community service events for property Hosts, including serving as the committee chair for host engagement team
  • Partner with the Silver Dollar City HR team to include lodging Hosts in recognition and appreciation events and programs, e.g. Milestone Service Awards
  • Ensure Host locker program is managed for resort
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times to ensure that there is no release of information pertaining to records and plans of any other matter without approval
  • Stay attuned to trends, laws, and updates to ensure company policies stay compliant and up to date
  • Assists with all other HR programming as needed
