About The Position

Envision Education is seeking an experienced Director of Finance for our Support Office in Oakland. The Director of Finance will manage the accounting and finance functions of our fast-paced organization, which runs three college preparatory middle and high schools in the Bay Area as well as a national educational consulting division. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Finance oversees and manages the Payroll and Accounts Payable Manager. Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience, with at least 5 years at the supervisory level.
  • BA or BS in Accounting; CPA preferred.
  • Non-profit accounting experience required, ideally within the educational sector.
  • Experience with general ledger account management, account reconciliation, account analysis, cash flow forecasting, balance sheet management, and preparation of financial statements.
  • Experience with MIP or other small to mid-sized company ERP software.
  • A track record of discretion handling highly confidential information.
  • Experience with California charter school revenue, expense and audit issues desirable.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Slack, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • CPA preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and manage the accounting and financial operations, including overseeing a Staff Accountant in the performance of the following key duties: Budgeting, Audit, Accounts Payable, Billing and Receivables, General Ledger and Financial Reporting, Cash Flow Forecasting, Financial Reconciliations and analysis, Fixed Asset Management
  • Interface with school Principals to ensure they have accurate, timely, and meaningful financial information to make key decisions for their schools.
  • Interface with department heads to ensure they have accurate, timely, and meaningful financial information to make key decisions for their departments.
  • Ensure that Envision is maximizing the potential of our MIP Fund Accounting system to provide real-time information that can be used to make key decisions.
  • Structure financial reports in MIP to meet the needs of users and key decision makers.
  • Create, update and maintain documentation of accounting policies and practices; create new policies as needed.
  • Produce reports (monthly, quarterly, ad-hoc and year-end reports), including, but not limited to: general ledger, balance sheets, budget analysis, cash flow projections, and compliance reporting to school districts.
  • Prepare bank and other balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Assist COO and department heads with budgeting, presentations, and ad hoc analysis activities.
  • Work with charter authorizers, county offices of education, and other state departments to ensure timely receipt of all cash and submission of required reports.
  • Monitor and expedite state and federal grant collections; competitive grant processing from government agencies and private funding sources.
  • Work with the Development department to prepare grant budgets and reports as needed.
  • Oversee tracking of all grants.
  • Maintain chart of accounts and financial hierarchy structure.
  • Provide project management leadership
