About The Position

The Director of Facilities provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for all campus facilities, grounds, maintenance, housekeeping, environmental health and safety, and capital improvement projects for the Ivy Tech Community College Madison Campus. This position is responsible for ensuring that campus buildings and infrastructure are safe, functional, attractive, and support student success and employee engagement. The Director of Facilities develops and implements preventative maintenance programs, manages facility budgets, oversees construction and renovation projects, ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and provides leadership to facilities personnel. This position works collaboratively with campus leadership, faculty, staff, students, contractors, and community partners to support the College's mission and strategic priorities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in a related field
  • Three years related work experience or industry related certifications
  • Two years supervisory experience is required
  • Experience managing construction or renovation projects preferred
  • Experience managing budgets and vendor contracts preferred
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Responsibilities

  • Assist with new construction, major renovation projects and long-term campus facility needs
  • Directs the day-to-day activities and workload of the facilities department
  • Oversees the department budget and expenditures
  • Provides supervision for the maintenance of the building, grounds and equipment. This includes providing preventative as well as emergency maintenance and repairs for any electrical equipment, plumbing systems, sprinkler system, alarm systems, HVAC systems, carpentry, building access & keying issues and general building security systems
  • Coordinates all grounds services such as mowing, fertilizing, pruning of any type, plantings, general outside cleanup and snow removal
  • Advises the Vice Chancellor of HR & Operations of the need for contract maintenance when a project is beyond the capabilities of the department workforce. Once approved, this position contacts the vendor for action
  • Provides supervision, input and direction to the Maintenance Technicians and Custodians to establish work schedules and assignments
  • Provides technical assistance as needed to the Maintenance Technicians and follows up on completed work to determine the workforce effectiveness and efficiency
  • Responsible for the quantity and quality of all work performed by vendors
  • Assist in the implementation of personnel policies including resolving personnel issues
  • Develops and conducts yearly employee evaluations, helps set employee goals and expectations
  • Maintains employee records, approves time sheets, requests for overtime, vacation and monitors employee absenteeism
  • Schedules for vacation, weekend and holiday coverage
  • Responsible for ordering supplies and materials and creating purchase orders for the Facilities department
  • Enforces use of all applicable safety regulations, investigates and reports all accidents/injuries among maintenance staff or to the campus property
  • Attends meetings and training programs as deemed appropriate and/or beneficial to the department
  • Responsible for the maintenance of the key inventory, key cutting, key issuance and maintenance of lock codes for the campus
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned
