Director of Engineering, Data

Allara•New York, NY
•$220,000 - $250,000•Hybrid

About The Position

Allara is hiring its first Director of Data to build the backbone of how the company collects, models, governs, and uses data. This hands-on leadership role reports to the VP of Engineering. In the first months, the director will work directly on pipelines, improve ETL, consolidate duplicated logic, and close source-data gaps. Over time, the director will define and drive the company’s data strategy, set standards for the organization, and grow the data function as Allara scales. The role combines strategic ownership with hands-on execution, with hands-on work taking priority initially. The position is described as hybrid in New York City, with at least three days per week in the NYC office as the target and flexibility as needed. The posting also states that the role may be 100% remote within the U.S. or three-day hybrid in NYC. The director will make company data trustworthy, establish a reliable and traceable source of truth, and define a strategy for scaling data use, including AI-assisted analysis and using health data to improve outcomes. They will build and lead the data engineering function and partner with Product, Growth, Finance, Strategy, and Clinical as owner of the shared data platform and standards.

  • Own the shared data platform and standards, support departmental stakeholders and analysts, and enable trustworthy self-serve analytics.
  • Own the shared AI-ready data layer and canonical terminology definitions and skills that power AI-assisted analysis across departments.
