About The Position

The Director, Data Engineering owns the strategy, reliability, and evolution of the enterprise business intelligence and analytics platform ecosystem. The role ensures BI platforms are scalable, secure, cost-efficient, and operationally excellent so business analytics teams can deliver insights quickly and confidently. Focus areas include platform engineering, operations, and enablement. The position reports to the Sr Director, Data Architecture & Engineering. The Director leads the BI platform strategy, architecture, operations, governance, and continuous improvement; manages platform technologies, vendors, licensing, and costs; and builds and develops high-performing BI platform and technical services teams. The role partners with security, governance, technology, analytics, business, and executive stakeholders to ensure platform investments support measurable business outcomes. The starting salary is $170,000, commensurate with relevant experience. The Hertz Corporation operates the Hertz, Dollar Car Rental, and Thrifty Car Rental brands across approximately 9,700 corporate and franchise locations worldwide.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
10+ years of leadership experience in BI, analytics, data platforms, or related technologies.
Deep expertise with modern BI platforms, semantic layers, cloud technologies, and enterprise integrations.
Proven success leading enterprise-scale BI environments and platform teams.
Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence across all levels of the organization.
Demonstrated success building and developing high-performing teams while driving operational excellence and organizational change.
Strategic, results-oriented thinking with strong problem-solving, decision-making, and execution capabilities.
Adaptability and effectiveness in fast-paced, evolving environments, with a strong sense of accountability and ownership.

Responsibilities

Lead the strategy, roadmap, and governance of the enterprise BI and analytics platform ecosystem.
Define and maintain platform architecture, standards, and integration best practices.
Evaluate, implement, and optimize BI technologies to support business growth and scalability.
Oversee BI platform deployment, automation, performance, reliability, and disaster recovery.
Drive operational excellence through Infrastructure-as-Code, CI/CD processes, monitoring, and service management.
Partner with security and governance teams to ensure appropriate access controls, compliance, and data governance standards.
Enable self-service analytics through tooling, templates, documentation, and platform support.
Manage platform licensing, vendor relationships, and cost optimization initiatives.
Lead incident response, root cause analysis, and continuous platform improvement efforts.
Build, develop, and mentor high-performing BI platform and technical services teams.
Establish operating models, performance expectations, and career development pathways for team members.
Communicate platform strategy, health, risks, and roadmap progress to executive stakeholders.
Collaborate across technology, analytics, and business teams to translate platform investments into measurable business outcomes.
Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, continuous improvement, and customer-focused service delivery.
