About The Position

A large healthcare facility in Austin is seeking a Director of Emergency Services to lead a large, multi-site emergency services operation. The facility includes a 24-hour main emergency department, pediatric emergency care, a Level IV Epilepsy Center, and a Heart and Vascular Center, along with a broad range of acute care services. This is a high-impact leadership role overseeing emergency operations across multiple locations and service lines, with a strong focus on clinical excellence, operational efficiency, and team development. This role provides overall leadership for a complex emergency services network that includes a 42-bed main emergency department seeing approximately 180 patients daily, a surgical hospital emergency department, and four freestanding emergency departments. Two managers oversee the freestanding sites, while this director leads the full system-wide ED strategy and operations, managing a team of approximately 100 FTEs. The director is responsible for ensuring high-quality, efficient emergency care across all sites while aligning clinical practice, staffing, and financial performance with organizational goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing required
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience required
  • Strong, current experience as an Emergency Department Director required
  • Proven track record of measurable results in emergency services operations required

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred
  • 5+ years preferred experience
  • Demonstrated success managing high-volume, multi-site emergency departments strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead operations across multiple emergency department sites, including main ED, surgical ED, and freestanding ED locations
  • Oversee patient flow, throughput, volume forecasting, and capacity planning across the system
  • Ensure timely and effective admission, discharge, and transfer processes
  • Drive clinical quality through evidence-based practice and reduction of variation in care
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards across all emergency services
  • Manage budgeting, labor productivity, and financial performance for the service line
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction and operational efficiency improvements
  • Partner closely with medical leadership and interdisciplinary teams to support care delivery and service line growth
  • Develop, mentor, and retain high-performing emergency services leadership and staff
  • Support strategic planning and continuous improvement initiatives across the ED network
