About The Position

The Director of Commercial Banking is responsible for developing, establishing, and expanding Orion Financial’s commercial banking portfolio. This newly created role combines business development, commercial lending, relationship management, and leadership responsibilities to support growth in commercial lending, business deposits, treasury services, and member relationships.

Requirements

  • Eight to ten years of progressive experience in commercial banking, business development, commercial lending, and/or relationship management.
  • Proven experience originating and closing significant commercial loan transactions and meeting lending and deposit growth goals.
  • Experience working in a financial institution, commercial bank, credit union, or established community banking environment.
  • Established book of business with strong, trust-based relationships and potential commercial banking opportunities.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial credit structuring, underwriting, risk assessment, and regulatory compliance.
  • Exceptional relationship-building and business development skills.
  • Strategic, innovative, and results-driven mindset with a hands-on approach.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with business owners, community leaders, internal partners, and senior leadership.
  • Strong understanding of commercial and corporate client needs and evolving expectations.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and other relevant business systems.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, develop, and manage high-value commercial banking relationships, focusing on businesses with at least $5 million in annual revenue and loan opportunities of $1 million or more.
  • Leverage an established professional network and book of business to generate quality leads, referrals, and new relationships.
  • Structure and negotiate complex credit solutions, including term loans, working capital lines of credit, equipment loans, and owner-occupied real estate loans, in alignment with credit union policy, risk tolerance, and regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with the CRE underwriting team to provide timely, competitive, and member-focused lending decisions.
  • Proactively promote commercial lending, business deposit, treasury management, and other business services.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to business members by providing financial solutions that support their growth and long-term stability.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor offerings, and emerging opportunities to support strategic growth initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance business offerings through new capabilities, partnerships, fintech solutions, and member-driven innovation.
  • Represent Orion Financial at community events, industry associations, and networking opportunities to strengthen brand presence and generate leads.
  • Recruit, coach, manage, and develop future Business Relationship Officers and related sales resources.
  • Deliver strong member-focused results while supporting Orion Financial’s brand, culture, risk appetite, and service standards.
