About The Position

The Director of Commercial Business Development will lead the strategy, development, and execution of Signature Solar’s national commercial sales initiatives. Reporting to the Senior Director of Sales and Business Development, this role is responsible for building and scaling a high-performing sales organization focused on delivering commercial solar solutions to installers, EPCs, and emerging vertical markets. This position requires a shift from transactional sales toward solution-based selling, with a strong emphasis on driving projects from initial opportunity through completion. The ideal candidate will bring strong sales leadership, deep industry knowledge, and a builder’s mindset, with the ability to operate effectively in a rapidly evolving market. This individual will play a critical role in shaping the company’s commercial growth strategy and ensuring long-term customer and partner success.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in the solar industry, with at least 2 years focused on commercial sales or business development.
  • 3–5+ years of experience in commercial focused technical training, field service, solar/energy storage installation, or a related technical role
  • Strong understanding of solar PV systems, energy storage, electrical fundamentals, and system design with a focus on 3phase commercial applications
  • Ability to deliver clear, engaging technical training to diverse commercial audiences
  • Proven ability to make corporate introduction and product-oriented presentations to a C-suite audience
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with hands-on field experience
  • Strong communications skills—both verbal and written—in English
  • Ability to travel up to 65% of the time, including overnight travel
  • Proven customer service skills and ability to work cross-functionally with sales and support teams
  • Proficiency with digital tools (CRM, monitoring platforms, training software, etc.)

Nice To Haves

  • Proven experience building and scaling a team or business division is highly preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of the solar industry and a strong perspective on its near-term direction.
  • Demonstrated success in solution-based sales and managing opportunities through full project lifecycle.
  • Experience working in high-growth or evolving business environments is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Build and lead a national commercial sales team focused on installers, EPCs, and new vertical markets.
  • Develop and execute a scalable commercial sales strategy aligned with company growth objectives.
  • Drive solution-based sales processes that prioritize long-term partnerships and successful project completion.
  • Establish and refine sales processes, incentives, and performance metrics tied to project execution and completion.
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities across commercial and emerging market segments.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, product, and leadership teams to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Develop strong relationships with key industry stakeholders, including installers, EPCs, and strategic partners.
  • Monitor market trends, competitive landscape, and policy changes to inform strategic decisions.
  • Travel as needed to support team development, partner engagement, and industry events.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
