Director of Applied AI/ML

The Director of Applied AI/ML at Databook will be responsible for overseeing the execution and delivery of machine learning (ML) projects within the company's product roadmap. This role requires a highly technical individual with a proven track record of delivering customer-facing ML functionality into production. The ideal candidate should have experience in PyTorch or TensorFlow, setting up ML systems in AWS, and a deep understanding of modern NLP, transformers, large language models, and generative AI. The Director of Applied AI/ML will play a hands-on role in developing and implementing ML solutions across the entire engineering team, while also providing technical leadership and mentorship.

• Leading the execution and delivery of ML projects in alignment with the product roadmap
• Collaborating with the CTO, head of Product, and engineering leaders to define project requirements, resource allocation, and timelines
• Developing and implementing ML models and algorithms using PyTorch or TensorFlow
• Designing and building scalable ML systems on AWS
• Staying updated on the latest advancements in ML, deep learning, NLP, transformers, large language models, and generative AI
• Driving continuous improvement in ML processes, methodologies, and best practices
• Providing technical leadership and mentorship across the engineering team
• Acting as a subject matter expert on ML-related topics and effectively communicating complex concepts to stakeholders
• Strong technical proficiency in PyTorch or TensorFlow, with hands-on experience in developing and deploying ML models
• Expertise in setting up ML systems in AWS, including familiarity with relevant AWS services and best practices
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and planning skills
• Previous experience in overseeing ML projects and driving successful execution
• Passion for staying updated on the latest advancements in ML and AI and a strong drive to innovate and deliver high-quality solutions.

• 8+ years of experience in software development, with 5+ years in an ML/AI domain and 3+ years in ML/AI leadership
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (Master's degree or Ph.D. highly desirable)
• Proven track record of delivering customer-facing ML functionality into production within a startup environment
• Strong technical proficiency in PyTorch or TensorFlow, with hands-on experience in developing and deploying ML models
• Expertise in setting up ML systems in AWS, including familiarity with relevant AWS services and best practices
• In-depth knowledge of ML techniques such as deep learning, NLP, transformers, large language models, and generative AI
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to address technical challenges effectively
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and planning skills, with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams
• Previous experience in a similar role, overseeing ML projects and driving successful execution
• Passion for staying updated on the latest advancements in ML and AI and a strong drive to innovate and deliver high-quality solutions.
