Director of AI Strategy & Enablement

Hillel International•Washington, DC
•$115,000 - $130,000•Remote

About The Position

Hillel International seeks a Director of AI Strategy & Enablement to build lasting AI capability across its professional network. Reporting to the Senior Director, Organizational Learning, the Director will turn emerging technology into practical, mission-aligned work in partnership with Technology Services and a cross-departmental team. The role focuses on identifying opportunities, redesigning workflows, developing best practices and ethical guidelines, and building organizational skills for effective AI use. It is an enablement and change-leadership role, not a help desk position: the Director will equip teams to use AI and develop distributed capacity that can sustain itself. The initial focus is service to Hillel International’s Schusterman International Center, with consultation and resource sharing across campus Hillels anticipated in year two. The position is fully remote for eligible U.S.-based candidates, with a preference for candidates able to work hybrid one to two days per week at the Washington, D.C. headquarters. This is a two-year position; continuation beyond the initial term depends on demonstrated impact and sustained funding.

Requirements

  • Typically 8 or more years of professional experience in learning and development, change management, organizational development, digital transformation, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated hands-on fluency with modern AI tools, including large language models and enterprise AI platforms, and a working understanding of their capabilities and limitations.
  • Collaborative approach to setting priorities, building from scratch, and moving between organizational strategy and hands-on implementation.
  • Track record of driving technology adoption across an organization, helping people progress from curiosity to confident, sustained practice.
  • Ability to explain complex technical concepts in plain language and translate them into practical workflows.
  • Strong facilitation and adult-learning instincts, with experience designing and delivering training or enablement for non-technical staff.
  • Ability to speak credibly and honestly about the ethical, cultural, and environmental dimensions of AI, including limitations and risks, and help colleagues navigate concerns.
  • Conviction that AI should enhance human creativity and expertise rather than substitute for them, with judgment to help teams define appropriate use.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, including ability to advise and influence senior leadership.
  • Sound judgment regarding data integrity, privacy, and responsible use of organizational information.
  • Must be legally authorized to work and based in the United States.
  • The role does not require being a software engineer.

  • Familiarity with Claude, Gemini, Google Workspace, Salesforce, and Slack AI.
  • Practical experience building AI workflows, prompts, or connectors that embed an organization’s knowledge and voice into its tools.
  • Familiarity with AI ethics, responsible-AI frameworks, or environmental considerations of large-scale AI use.
  • Data and analytics literacy sufficient to help teams ask larger questions of existing data.
  • Prior experience establishing a new program, function, or capability in a growing or evolving organization.
  • Connection to or familiarity with Jewish communal life, campus life, or the populations Hillel serves.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Organizational Learning team to derive greater value from existing data, research, and evaluation infrastructure.

  • Provide vision, governance, and direction for AI adoption across Hillel International and the broader movement.
  • Serve as an embedded consultant to teams, facilitating opportunity identification, workflow redesign, and best-practice development.
  • Partner with each team’s designated AI enablement lead and transfer capability so teams can sustain and extend their own AI practices.
  • Build a peer-to-peer network to share, refine, and adopt successful approaches across the organization.
  • Establish practical principles for responsible AI use, including data privacy and quality, bias and accuracy, transparency, and environmental impact; help staff apply those considerations.
  • Address staff skepticism and promote AI as an amplifier of expertise and creativity rather than a replacement for it.
  • Guide selection and rollout of enterprise-grade AI platforms, secure access, and the technology ecosystem needed for secure, effective adoption.
  • Establish standards that protect data integrity and organizational quality while keeping tools practical and useful to staff.
  • Coordinate operational implementation, integration, and support.
  • Develop and oversee an enablement strategy spanning staff training, embedded consultation, peer learning, and hands-on implementation support.
  • Build AI training modules into existing professional development programs.
  • Equip staff to use AI tools, identify opportunities, solve problems, and apply AI to organizational goals and student outcomes.
  • Include candid discussion of AI limitations, risks, and trade-offs in enablement.
