About The Position

CEBA is seeking a highly motivated Director of Membership to execute a data-driven membership strategy that fuels growth, delivers impacts and sustains value to our members. Reporting to the Chief Business Officer, the Director of Membership is a critical leadership role responsible for setting and executing the organization’s membership strategy, driving sustainable revenue growth, and ensuring a high-value, mission-aligned member experience. This role oversees the full membership lifecycle—recruitment, onboarding, engagement, retention, and renewal—and serves as a key connector between members, internal teams, and organizational leadership. The Director of Membership brings a strategic mindset balanced with hands-on execution, using data, relationship management, and market insight to strengthen and grow the membership base. This role plays a critical part in supporting the sustainability of the organization and the value proposition to its members. The position offers a hybrid work arrangement, with team collaboration days on Mondays and Wednesdays and one additional in-office day each week, determined by team priorities.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in membership, business development, sales, or client relationship management.
  • Demonstrated success owning and delivering against revenue and membership growth targets.
  • Strong strategic thinking paired with operational execution skills.
  • Experience personally cultivating and closing high-value memberships, sponsorships, or partnerships.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Experience managing staff and cross-functional initiatives.
  • Proficiency with CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce), AI, and other related systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in associations, nonprofits, trade organizations, or mission‑driven networks.
  • Experience working with senior executives and Boards.
  • Familiarity with data analysis, forecasting, and performance reporting.
  • Background in sustainability, energy, or policy

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive membership strategy aligned with organizational goals and revenue targets.
  • Lead member recruitment efforts, including direct member cultivation, pipeline development, prospect qualification, and conversion strategies.
  • Monitor market trends and member needs to inform strategy, membership segments, changes to value proposition, and pricing models as appropriate.
  • Oversee member onboarding and ongoing engagement to ensure strong relationships and long-term retention.
  • Working with event and programmatic teams, drive membership sponsorship, corporate contributions and other related member-driven revenue strategies
  • Design and oversee stewardship, renewal, and upgrade strategies.
  • Serve as a senior point of contact for key members.
  • Co-create and own membership revenue and related performance goals and forecasts; track progress against targets.
  • Prepare regular reports and insights for executive leadership and the Board.
  • Manage and mentor membership staff, fostering clear goals, accountability, and professional growth.
  • Work closely with finance, operations, and development teams on invoicing, renewals, contracts, and revenue tracking.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to align membership strategy with broader organizational priorities.
  • Oversee CRM systems and membership data to ensure accuracy, consistency, and usefulness.
  • Continuously improve membership processes, documentation, and workflows.
  • Use data and member feedback to inform continuous improvement of the membership experience.
  • Other related duties as assigned
