About The Position

The Director, Emerging Platforms is responsible for defining and scaling Walmart Marketing's emerging platforms strategy, driving customer growth through AI-driven discovery, agentic commerce, next-generation content ecosystems, and innovative marketing technologies. This leader identifies, pilots, measures, and scales new platform opportunities while building strategic partnerships and coordinating execution across Marketing, eCommerce, Product, Global Tech, Data & Analytics, and external partners. The team serves as organizational integrators and innovators, connecting teams, data, and platforms across site, app, and marketing into a unified customer growth engine. They pilot and scale new strategies, tools, and channels to adapt to evolving technology and customer behavior. By reducing operational friction, the team enables faster execution across functions and accelerates high-value customer engagement. Their collaborative approach ensures alignment with business objectives while driving continuous improvement and innovation in marketing planning and strategy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Technology, Analytics, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience leading digital marketing, platform strategy, growth, innovation, product, or technology-focused teams.
  • Experience launching and scaling new products, platforms, channels, or technologies.
  • Strong understanding of AI, digital commerce, search ecosystems, content strategy, measurement, and marketing technology.
  • Demonstrated success operating in ambiguous, rapidly evolving environments.
  • Exceptional communication, executive influence, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, or related field and 4 years' experience in marketing or related field OR 7 years'experience in marketing or related field.
  • 1 year's supervisory experience or experience leading cross-functional projects.

Responsibilities

  • Identify emerging technologies, channels, platforms, and shifts in customer behavior and translate them into actionable business opportunities.
  • Lead pilot-to-playbook programs across AI-mediated discovery, agentic commerce, content ecosystems, and future commerce experiences.
  • Evaluate and develop strategic partnerships with external platforms, technology providers, and industry partners.
  • Define success metrics tied to traffic quality, engagement, conversion, customer growth, and business impact.
  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing Emerging Platforms team.
  • Establish a culture of innovation, experimentation, accountability, and continuous learning.
  • Influence senior executives and cross-functional leaders to align around growth opportunities and strategic priorities.
  • Translate complex technology trends into clear business strategies and operational plans.
  • Partner with eCommerce teams to understand and shape agentic commerce opportunities.
  • Work closely with Product and Global Tech to influence AI and MarTech roadmaps.
  • Serve as a connector across functions to accelerate adoption and scale successful innovations.
