About The Position

The Mastercard Economics Institute (MEI) is an economics lab that drives economic thought leadership in support of Mastercard’s efforts to build an inclusive and sustainable digital economy. Launched in 2020, the Institute analyzes macroeconomic trends through the lens of the consumer to deliver tailored and actionable insights on economic issues for customers, partners, and policymakers. The Institute is composed of a team of economists, data scientists, and business strategists who utilize and synthesize anonymized and aggregated data from the Mastercard network, along with public data, to bring powerful insights to life through 1:1 presentations, global thought leadership, media participation, and commercial work with product partners. This role focuses on the North America business environment, responsible for infrastructure builds and maintenance. The Director will develop and lead the commercial growth strategy, focus the enterprise-wide engagement strategy, and drive operational efficiency and strong operational outcomes for the Institute. Qualified candidates will have experience connecting business challenges to economics solutions or be enthusiastic about learning to do so. This individual will partner with the Global Head of Growth and Operations, the Global Head of Operations, and other Regional Growth and Engagement Leads to drive growth for the Economics Institute and cultivate delivery excellence for North America, with assistance from the global MEI team and local practice leads. The role reports to the VP for Regional Growth and Engagement.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of consulting, business development, strategy and operations, or sales experience.
  • Strong collaborator working across cross-functional teams within the Institute and the broader Mastercard team; successful track record driving results from within a matrixed organization.
  • Deep experience with commercial pipeline management and trade-offs.
  • Methodical approach to project management, for both revenue-gen and internal work.
  • Familiarity with the field of global economics consulting and data products.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and timelines effectively and handling evolving situations fluidly.
  • Enthusiasm for talent management and development, as owner of regional project pipeline responsible for recommending staffing plans and securing team resources against production calendar and commitments.
  • Openness to new ideas, approaches, challenges and environments.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills necessary both for prioritization, development and deployment of new offerings within Mastercard, and for project execution with Mastercard’s target audience of senior business leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Act as point person in NAM to coordinate between MEI, Economics Intelligence product, Consulting teams, and external and internal stakeholders to identify, scope, and staff consulting engagements, product development initiatives, and exploratory research.
  • Use regional nuances to build out, refine, and own the Economics Intelligence segment and product go-to-market strategy for NAM, in coordination with global practice leads.
  • Engage in broader business development in NAM across products by joining key client meetings, developing and/or localizing MEI collateral, and informing marketing campaigns.
  • Ensure delivery excellence in coordination with NAM Product leads, including but not limited to: sourcing and developing local talent pipeline; participating in project deliveries and providing feedback; and identifying client use-case nuances or unmet needs.
  • Collaborate with MEI and business/product owners to develop and deliver on new services for NAM (size the market, scope requirements, address customer and product needs).
  • Partner with Head of Growth and Operations on group build out including infrastructure and strategy.
  • Support development of MEI value proposition for other regions by being available for above functions outside of NAM on an as-needed basis.
