About The Position

The Global Tax organization plays a critical role in supporting TransUnion's growth, compliance, and financial objectives across more than 30 countries. Reporting directly to the VP, Tax, the Director, Global Indirect Tax serves as the company's leader for indirect tax strategy, governance, compliance, technology, and risk management. This role partners extensively with Tax, Finance, Legal, Technology, Procurement, and business leaders to ensure TransUnion remains compliant and agile in an increasingly complex global indirect tax environment. This is a hybrid position and involves regular performance of job responsibilities virtually as well as in-person at an assigned TU office location for a minimum of two days a week.

Requirements

• Deep expertise in global indirect taxation is required, including significant experience leading multinational VAT, GST, sales and use tax, and digital services tax programs across multiple jurisdictions. This expertise is critical to establishing global tax governance, managing compliance risk, and supporting TransUnion's international growth strategy.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, Law, or a related field required.
• Ten or more years of progressive indirect tax experience within public accounting, multinational industry environments, or a combination of both, including leadership responsibility for global indirect tax compliance and governance.
• Demonstrated experience managing indirect tax audits, controversy matters, regulatory examinations, and dispute resolution activities while minimizing assessments, penalties, and financial exposure.
• Proven track record of leading global indirect tax teams, managing external advisors and co-sourced compliance providers, and partnering effectively with senior executives across multiple business functions.
• Strong project management, executive communication, and stakeholder management capabilities with the ability to influence strategic decisions across a complex global organization.
• Advanced knowledge of indirect tax technology platforms, tax determination engines, and automation solutions used to manage global VAT, GST, and sales tax compliance processes.
• Experience working with enterprise resource planning (ERP) environments and collaborating on tax engine configuration, indirect tax determination logic, and tax process optimization initiatives.
• Strong proficiency with tax research platforms, compliance management tools, data analytics solutions, and reporting technologies used within a multinational tax function.
• Experience supporting e-invoicing, digital reporting, continuous transaction controls, and other emerging indirect tax technology requirements across global jurisdictions.
• Advanced analytical capabilities and the ability to leverage technology to drive process efficiency, automation, compliance accuracy, and scalability.

Nice To Haves

• CPA, CMI, JD, or a comparable professional credential is preferred due to the technical and strategic nature of the position.
• Experience supporting technology, data, information services, SaaS, digital commerce, or similarly complex business models.
• Experience with tax engine platforms such as Vertex, Avalara, or comparable global indirect tax solutions.
• Experience leading indirect tax technology implementations or large-scale tax transformation initiatives within ERP environments.
• Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, legal entity restructuring activities, and post-acquisition integration efforts.
• Experience working within global shared services, offshore support models, or tax centers of excellence.
• Experience utilizing data analytics and emerging technologies to improve tax reporting, compliance, and operational effectiveness.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the global leader for indirect tax strategy, overseeing VAT, GST, sales and use tax, digital services taxes, and other emerging indirect tax regimes across TransUnion's global operations.
• Develop and execute a global indirect tax operating model that balances compliance, risk mitigation, automation, and business enablement while supporting the company's strategic objectives.
• Establish and maintain global indirect tax policies, governance frameworks, internal controls, and compliance standards to ensure consistency across jurisdictions.
• Act as the primary technical authority for indirect tax matters globally, providing guidance on the taxability of products, services, data solutions, digital offerings, and new business initiatives.
• Lead the global indirect tax compliance function, overseeing co-sourced providers, managing external advisors, and ensuring timely and accurate filing of indirect tax obligations worldwide.
• Direct global audit defense, controversy management, assessments, and dispute resolution activities while minimizing financial exposure and operational risk.
• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments across all regions and assess the impact of evolving tax requirements on TransUnion's business operations.
• Drive indirect tax technology transformation initiatives, including tax engine optimization, automation, e-invoicing readiness, digital reporting requirements, and continuous transaction control compliance.
• Partner with Finance, Technology, Legal, Corporate Development, and business leaders to support acquisitions, integrations, legal entity restructuring activities, and market expansion initiatives.
• Lead, develop, and mentor indirect tax professionals while fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, collaboration, and operational excellence.
