About The Position

The Director of Enterprise Systems & Software (ESS) is a strategic technology leader who establishes centralized ownership, governance, and architectural rigor across Ursa Major’s internal enterprise digital systems. Reporting to the Head of Digital Operations, the role transitions enterprise system ownership from legacy structures into a dedicated department and leads a team of subject matter experts across PLM, ERP, MES, data and analytics, and internal software engineering. The director will take ownership of the Odoo ERP ecosystem and evolve it to support public-company operations, including scalable inventory, work-in-progress tracking, costing, and financial reporting. The role will integrate engineering design, materials planning, shop-floor execution, and engine test data, with a goal of establishing the technical foundation for a manufacturing Digital Twin by the end of 2027. The organization will also absorb and govern adjacent business-critical systems and oversee internal applications, integrations, and data pipelines. This hybrid role is based in Longmont, Colorado, with regular on-site presence at the Berthoud and Galeton manufacturing facilities and periodic travel to Youngstown, Ohio. The position is full-time and exempt. The base compensation range is $180,000–$224,000, depending on education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive technical leadership experience in enterprise systems architecture, software engineering, or IT/Digital Operations.
  • At least 4+ years in director-level management roles.
  • Deep experience in aerospace, defense, automotive, or high-complexity discrete manufacturing, with an understanding of shop-floor realities across hardware assembly, liquid or solid propulsion, or additive manufacturing.
  • Experience overseeing enterprise platforms across PLM, ERP, MES, and domain-specific systems; examples include PTC Windchill, Odoo, SAP, NetSuite, Critical Manufacturing, Apriso, HighQA, Jama, and Ignition.
  • Track record of taking ownership of fragmented or legacy ERP environments and building scalable financial, costing, and inventory structures that support public-company audits and reporting.
  • Comprehensive understanding of ISA-95 framework levels, manufacturing data flows, and connected enterprise environments such as a Digital Twin.
  • Experience leading teams that build custom internal web applications, APIs, or middleware integrations.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct familiarity with PTC Windchill, Odoo ERP, Critical Manufacturing MES, HighQA, Jama, Inductive Automation Ignition, and Atlassian Cloud.
  • Familiarity with CMMC Level 2, NIST SP 800-171, and ITAR compliance boundaries in enterprise software ecosystems.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or an engineering discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Establish centralized ownership and serve as executive authority for business-critical enterprise platforms, providing dedicated subject matter expertise, administration, and support.
  • Absorb, integrate, and govern enterprise tools including HighQA, Jama, Ignition, and Atlassian.
  • Define system boundaries and single sources of truth across PLM, ERP, MES, and shop-floor SCADA to reduce data friction, manual rework, and audit risks.
  • Set the technical roadmap and execution plan to connect engineering design, materials planning, shop-floor execution, and engine test data into a Digital Twin environment before the end of 2027.
  • Take ownership of the Odoo ERP ecosystem and architect inventory, work-in-progress tracking, average costing, and financial reporting structures to support public-company standards.
  • Direct and mentor a multidisciplinary department spanning enterprise systems architecture, data science and analytics, software engineering, product ownership, and integrations.
  • Guide the transition of the Digital Manufacturing Manager into leadership of an Enterprise Systems Integrations team, ensuring robust API middleware and secure data pipelines.
  • Oversee internal software development, including the web-based engine testing platform, internal web portals, and operational tools.
  • Align systems and software workflows across the Longmont, Berthoud, Galeton, and Youngstown manufacturing sites.
  • Collaborate with executive leaders across Propulsion Engineering, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, Finance, and IT to address operational bottlenecks and align digital tools with business needs.
  • Partner with Finance to structure enterprise system implementations and internal software projects to qualify for internal-use software capitalization.
