Director, Business Strategy, HVAC/R Strategy - International
About The Position
The HVAC and refrigeration asset strategy team oversees HVAC and refrigeration performance across Walmart’s portfolio, including system design, specifications, maintenance, and field support. The team establishes design standards and asset and capital investment strategies to optimize equipment performance and lifecycle management, sets maintenance approaches to improve reliability and uptime, and works with operations and service providers to resolve complex issues through root-cause analysis and scalable best practices. This role leads the end-to-end strategic development of refrigeration and HVAC asset strategies for international Walmart markets and plans for future organizational growth. It is responsible for end-of-life strategy and preventive and reactive maintenance programs across Walmart’s facilities. The leader manages asset managers, program managers, and project managers and oversees large capital and operating expense plans and projects for refrigeration and HVAC infrastructure. The role partners across Walmart International, Upstream growth, Realty, Construction, Sustainability, Energy, Procurement, and other teams to improve uptime and total cost of ownership, while supporting reliable and sustainable operations across a large global fleet.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Statistics, Social Science, Communications, or a related field and 6 years of experience in retail merchandising, operations management, or a related area; or 8 years of experience in retail merchandising, operations management, or a related area.
- 2 years of supervisory experience.

- 10+ years of experience leading national multi-facility HVAC and refrigeration maintenance programs.

- Knowledge of end-to-end asset lifecycle management for refrigeration and HVAC systems.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams and managing vendor and contractor networks.
- Knowledge of maintenance contract negotiation and supplier management in the HVAC and refrigeration space.
- Skill in transitioning operations from reactive maintenance to reliability-centered maintenance.
- Ability to use analytics to inform asset investment decisions.
- Experience managing complex, multi-site projects with a focus on operational needs, prioritization, and execution.
- Ability to lead cross-functional collaboration to align business goals and operational needs.
Responsibilities
- Develop and refine HVAC and refrigeration equipment standards with internal and external stakeholders.
- Oversee procurement strategies for refrigeration and HVAC systems in partnership with Global Procurement.
- Establish commissioning protocols to optimize equipment performance from installation.
- Define lifecycle management strategies, including preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance approaches.
- Develop training and best practices for field execution teams.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for field teams performing day-to-day maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Lead large capital and operating expense projects for refrigeration and HVAC infrastructure upgrades.
- Identify spare parts protocols with the Facility Services Parts team to improve repair efficiency.
- Build and manage capital and OPEX plans for cost-effective refrigeration and HVAC operations.
- Collaborate with Walmart International, Upstream growth, Realty, Construction, Sustainability, Energy, and Procurement teams to maximize uptime and total cost of ownership.
