Director, Broader Public Sector IT Staffing

Robertson & CompanyToronto, ON
Hybrid

About The Position

Robertson & Company is a global recruitment firm specializing in Finance & Accounting, Core Banking, and Technology recruitment within financial services. We partner exclusively with banks, financial institutions, and capital markets firms to deliver consultative, high-impact staffing solutions across permanent, contract, and project-based hiring. For over 25 years, Robertson has built long-standing relationships across the banking sector by combining deep market expertise with a relationship-driven, consultative approach. Our hybrid recruitment model enables our teams to focus on strategic client engagement, new business growth, and delivering measurable hiring outcomes for our clients. We are now extending that track record into the Broader Public Sector, including government, healthcare, education, and Crown corporations, and we are building the commercial leadership to do it properly. This role is not a maintenance assignment. It is a market-building opportunity for a commercially driven individual who wants to own a vertical, shape a growth story, and ultimately lead the team they build around it. This is an individual contributor role, with a mandate to build something significant. Robertson has active MSAs in place across a portfolio of BPS clients. The infrastructure, credibility, and contractual foundation exist. What this role demands is the commercial energy, relationship instincts, and hunter mentality to fully activate it. You will be building the kind of relationships with program leads, procurement executives, hiring managers, and business sponsors where Robertson is already in the room when workforce strategy is being set and decisions are being made. Pre-wiring deals, shaping requirements before they are written, and creating demand rather than responding to it is the expectation from day one. This is not an account management role where you wait for the VMS to send out new job requirements. This is a business development role where you go get them before they exist on paper. As the BPS vertical grows, so does the scope of this role. The vision is a dedicated BPS practice with recruiters, account managers, and delivery staff reporting to this Director. For the right person, this is the foundation of a business unit, not just a territory.

Requirements

  • A proven hunter, someone who builds pipeline from scratch, pursues relationships with intention, and does not rely on inbound demand or system-generated leads to drive their business.
  • Experience in IT contingent staffing, professional services, or enterprise solutions sales, ideally with exposure to MSP/VMS-managed programs or complex, regulated-sector clients. BPS-specific experience is an asset, not a prerequisite. The right commercial instincts and the drive to learn the landscape matter more.
  • The ability to build credibility at the executive level with procurement leaders, program directors, hiring managers, and business sponsors, and convert that credibility into durable, multi-threaded client relationships.
  • Fluency in technology staffing disciplines: software development, cloud, data, cybersecurity, infrastructure, project management, and business analysis.
  • Comfort operating in complex, multi-stakeholder procurement environments, navigating program offices, MSP structures, and compliance-driven procurement processes with patience and strategic intent.
  • A track record of building new accounts, new relationships, and new pipelines, not just managing what is already in motion.
  • The ambition to grow with the role. The individual contributor who excels here becomes the leader who builds and runs the team around them. We are looking for someone energized by both dimensions.
  • Commercially sharp: understands margin, urgency, and the true cost of a missed submission or a lost relationship and structures their day accordingly.
  • An executive communicator with the presence and credibility to show up as a trusted advisor in the room, not a transactional vendor.

Nice To Haves

  • BPS-specific experience is an asset, not a prerequisite.

Responsibilities

  • Own the full lifecycle of Robertson's BPS portfolio from initial outreach and relationship development through requirement delivery, candidate submission, interview management, and fill rate protection. Every dimension of the portfolio is yours.
  • Get in front of clients. Make the calls. Book the meetings. Build executive-level relationships across government, healthcare, education, and crown corporations with the deliberate intent of being positioned ahead of requirements, not chasing them after they hit the market.
  • Leverage Robertson's active MSAs and established client relationships as a commercial foundation while simultaneously expanding the footprint through direct client development and new account acquisition.
  • Pre-wire deals, engage deeply enough in client workforce strategy to shape requirements, align Robertson's capabilities, and be the obvious choice when a mandate is formally released.
  • Build and maintain multi-threaded relationships across every account.
  • Own delivery outcomes end-to-end, staying engaged through sourcing, shortlist, submission, interview, offer, and onboarding. Requirements are not handed off and monitored from a distance. You are in the detail.
  • Protect and consistently improve program scorecard performance across the BPS portfolio: submission ratios, time-to-fill, interview-to-offer conversion, fill rate, and client satisfaction.
  • Run a structured client engagement cadence, including regular business reviews, demand planning conversations, and QBRs that surface upcoming mandates, flag risk early, and identify expansion opportunities within and across accounts.
  • As the business grows, recruit, develop, and lead a team of BPS-dedicated recruiters, account managers, and delivery staff, building a practice with this Director at its head.
  • Maintain rigorous CRM documentation and data discipline (Bullhorn) across all account, requirement, relationship, and activity records.

Benefits

  • Competitive base salary + uncapped commission structure
  • 100% employer-paid benefits (medical, dental, vision, prescriptions, wellness)
  • 100% employer-matched RRSP program
