Director, Brand, Content and Comms

Valence•New York, NY

About The Position

Valence is hiring a Director, Brand, Content and Comms to lead how Valence and Nadia are understood, remembered, and chosen by enterprise leaders. The role owns brand strategy and activation, content and thought leadership, research, PR and communications, and high-impact in-person brand experiences. The Director will turn existing assets—including a new brand narrative, thought-leader relationships, customer advocates, and an executive team working at the forefront of AI and talent—into a coherent system that earns trust and leads conversations about how AI is changing work. Reporting directly to the VP of Marketing, the Director will work closely with the CEO and the GMs of the US and EMEA businesses to shape Valence’s global brand presence. This is a leadership role on a lean marketing team operating at startup velocity. The Director will manage a content strategist and an events lead, oversee brand design and PR agency relationships, may bring brand design in-house, and grow the function as the business develops. The role combines strategic leadership with hands-on execution: establishing brand positioning and governance, developing research and executive thought leadership, leading communications and agency work, creating experiences for senior buyers, turning customer outcomes into stories, measuring brand impact, managing the brand budget, and building a high-performing creative team.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in content, brand, or communications, including senior leadership experience at a high-growth software company.
  • Experience leading a multidisciplinary brand or corporate marketing function, with the ability to demonstrate its strategy, operating model, team, and results.
  • Experience working directly with a CEO and executive team and contributing to first-principles discussions about strategic investments.
  • Ability to distinguish content that is merely interesting from content that changes how a CHRO or CEO thinks, and to earn the trust of senior buyers.
  • Experience building thought leadership that earned authority on a topic such as the future of work, or a clear approach involving original research, institutional partnerships, and executive voice programs.
  • Experience owning or helping shape communications strategy and managing agencies, including selecting agencies, defining scope, holding them accountable to outcomes, and knowing when to act without them—or a clear view of how to do so.
  • Startup or high-growth company experience and comfort building a function with limited infrastructure and shifting priorities.
  • Strong ownership of outcomes, a drive for excellence, and willingness to take responsibility for fixing problems beyond narrowly defined job duties.
  • Ability to operate with speed and conviction, make decisions without perfect certainty, test quickly, and use results to guide next steps.
  • Curiosity, low ego, strong listening and direct-challenge skills, and willingness to commit to decisions even when they are not your own.
  • AI-native working habits, with specific examples of AI automations or improvements made in the past six months.

Responsibilities

  • Own brand strategy end to end, including positioning, messaging architecture, voice, and visual identity.
  • Work with leadership to define how Valence and Nadia relate as brands, and build brand guidelines and decision rights that keep internal teams and external partners aligned.
  • Define the ideas Valence should be known for and develop research into a thought leadership program.
  • Build credibility alongside partners such as Microsoft and develop an executive voice framework.
  • Lead PR and communications strategy, select and manage the agency, shape its scope, and respond effectively to opportunities such as national press.
  • Design high-impact brand experiences for senior buyers, partnering with the events lead on execution; field marketing and demand-generation events remain with the revenue team.
  • Partner with the Executive Engagement and Customer Advocacy lead to create case studies and customer stories across media and formats.
  • Establish measures for brand awareness and consideration among target buyers and demonstrate brand influence on pipeline.
  • Own the brand budget and agency ecosystem, and balance investment across brand, pipeline-adjacent content, and experiences.
  • Build and lead the team, elevate work across its capabilities, determine when to add in-house skills versus freelancers or agencies, and guide and inspire creative talent.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary including base pay and bonuses.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage from day one.
  • Generous paid time off, company-wide R&R shutdowns, and paid parental leave.
  • Retirement plan support for US and global employees.
  • Meaningful equity ownership in a venture-backed company.
  • Potential top-up grants as the company scales and the employee delivers exceptional performance.
