About The Position

This position serves as the Operations Director for the Anatomic Pathology division within the Department of Pathology at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. The role utilizes management, customer service, and technical skills to oversee Anatomic Pathology Operations and laboratory managers across various labs including Gross Room, Tissue Procurement Services, Histology, IHC, Biomarker Reference Lab, Renal Pathology (EM and IF), OSU Histology, LLC, Autopsy/Morgue, Hematopathology office, Dermatopathology office, Cytology lab and office, and Pathology Support Services (Clinical Documentation, Information and Consultation offices). The Director is responsible for continually evaluating, developing, and implementing quality improvements for anatomic pathology clinical services, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of technical methods and processes. This includes developing procedures for clinical data input into the Laboratory Information System (Beaker), collaborating with the Anatomic Pathology Quality Director on the quality plan, and working with AP Division Directors to maintain high-quality operations. The role involves interaction with pathologists, surgeons, clinicians, and laboratory staff to provide quality services and technical assistance. The Director ensures CAP and NYSDOH inspection readiness, staff compliance with testing, billing, and reporting requirements, and assesses/implements new technologies, laboratory designs, and equipment. Planning for new approaches to improve service quality is also a key responsibility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution OR Associate degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology AND Bachelor's degree in a chemical or biological science.
  • 7 years of relevant experience required.
  • ASCP certification required within 1 year of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee Anatomic Pathology Operations and laboratory managers for various labs including Gross Room, Tissue Procurement Services, Histology, IHC, Biomarker Reference Lab, Renal Pathology (EM and IF), OSU Histology, LLC, Autopsy/Morgue, Hematopathology office, Dermatopathology office, Cytology lab and office, and Pathology Support Services (Clinical Documentation, Information and Consultation offices).
  • Continually evaluate, develop, and implement quality improvements for anatomic pathology clinical services.
  • Ensure the evaluation, production, completion, and accuracy of high-quality technical methods and processes in a timely fashion.
  • Develop and maintain procedures that oversee the input of clinical data entered into the Laboratory Information System (Beaker).
  • Work in conjunction with the Anatomic Pathology Quality Director to maintain and ensure the pathology quality plan.
  • Work in conjunction with AP Division Directors to maintain high-quality methods, processes, and operations.
  • Interact with pathologists, surgeons, clinicians, laboratory managers, and laboratory staff to provide quality services and technical assistance.
  • Ensure CAP and New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) inspection readiness for Anatomic Pathology.
  • Ensure staff compliance with all testing, billing, and reporting requirements.
  • Assess and implement new changes in technology, laboratory design, and equipment for the Anatomic Pathology Laboratories.
  • Plan for new approaches to improve the quality of service.
