About The Position

This Laboratory Supervisor role is specific to the Anatomic Pathology Department. The supervisor will provide direct oversight of anatomic pathology operations, workflows, and staff. This is an exempt position. The supervisor will function independently and collaboratively with the laboratory leadership in performing supervision of laboratory staff, including hiring and termination, performance review, coaching, corrective action, and development of performance improvement plans. They will provide site operation oversight and are responsible for implementing LEAN workflow principles and best practices in all aspects of laboratory operations. Site responsibility may include technical oversight of work responsibilities of professional laboratory practice. The role may involve performing a wide variety of complex diagnostic and therapeutic testing, acting as a resource for problem resolution and interpretation of results, and being responsible for instrument correlation and method validation. The supervisor will correlate data based on clinical knowledge, technical expertise, and other conditions affecting test results. They will participate in laboratory quality assurance programs and performance improvement activities, assist with staff and student training, orientation of new employees, reviewing and updating procedures, and providing direction and problem-solving skills for laboratory functions. The position also involves implementing standardization efforts in the laboratory. A 2-year commitment to the role is required. This position is not eligible for sponsorship, and Mayo Clinic does not participate in the F1 STEM OPT extension program.

Requirements

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Medical Technology, Medical/Clinical Laboratory Science, or a health/health sciences related field.
  • Four years of experience actively working in a moderate or high complexity clinical laboratory.
  • Current certification as a Histotechnologist (HT or HTL).
  • Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance principles and practices.
  • Ability to be effective in a diverse work group.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and render decisions.

  • 2-year commitment to the role required.
  • Foreign trained lab personnel must provide a detailed equivalency evaluation to include US equivalent degree at the applicant's expense.
  • International transcript must have a DETAILED equivalency evaluation.
  • Evaluation must show US equivalent degree.
  • Evaluation must be completed from an organization listed as a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) www.naces.org OR the Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (AICE) www.aice-eval.org.

Responsibilities
