About The Position

The G. Brint Ryan College of Business is seeking a Director, Academic Advising to direct college-wide undergraduate academic advising activities and student retention initiatives. This role ensures alignment with the RCOB and UNT's strategic priorities by setting priorities and goals, managing performance, identifying and implementing best practices, leading and developing advising staff, developing and enforcing policies, and managing advising resources. The Director will oversee operations related to scheduling, orientation, new hire training, and maintain continuity of advising practices. They will also lead/participate in special projects related to UNT and RCOB strategic initiatives.

Requirements

Master's degree and four years of experience in student affairs, student services, counseling, professional academic advising, or related experience.
Considerable knowledge of University policies and procedures related to the functional area (or ability to rapidly assimilate).
Current knowledge of student development and counseling theory.
Strong leadership skills appropriate for a supportive, dynamic environment.
Strong presentation skills, critical thinking skills, and creative problem-solving skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations verbally and in writing.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.

Responsibilities

Directs college-wide undergraduate academic advising activities and student retention initiatives.
Sets priorities and goals for RCOB undergraduate advising and retention.
Manages performance planning and management for advising and retention staff.
Identifies and implements best practices in undergraduate student advising and retention.
Leads and develops undergraduate advising staff, providing direct supervision of senior advising staff.
Develops and enforces RCOB advising and retention policies and procedures.
Plans, acquires, develops, and efficiently utilizes RCOB undergraduate advising resources.
Oversees operations relating to scheduling of advising appointments, orientation process, and new hire training for advising staff.
Maintains the continuity of advising staff and practices for assigned area.
Leads/participates in special projects associated with UNT and RCOB strategic initiatives.
