Your mission Reporting to the Director of Human Resources – Canada, the Director of Occupational Health, Safety, and Well-being acts as a strategic partner to management and operational teams to implement high-performing, sustainable OHS practices aligned with the organization's business objectives. This role is part of a context of organizational transformation and manufacturing performance, aiming to position health and safety as a strategic lever for value creation, risk management, and employee engagement. In addition to supervising and developing their team, the incumbent will support operations in Quebec, Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia, ensuring the harmonization of OHS practices, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement of the prevention culture. The incumbent is also responsible for the occupational health, safety, and environment (HSE) management system, including maintaining ISO 45001 certification, and for the evolution of the emergency measures program to strengthen organizational preparedness and resilience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, human resources, industrial relations, nursing, engineering, law, or a related field.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in occupational health and safety in a unionized manufacturing environment, including several years in a management or director role.
  • Demonstrated significant experience in OHS prevention, complex file management, dispute and grievance management, and CNESST funding and optimization.
  • Experience in multi-site and ideally multi-jurisdictional operations in Canada.
  • Influential leadership and ability to mobilize managers and teams around OHS objectives.
  • Ability to evolve a strong OHS culture focused on accountability, prevention, and manager leadership.
  • Global vision, excellent judgment, and the ability to propose innovative solutions in a complex organizational context.
  • Strong interest in continuous improvement, data analysis, and sustainable performance.
  • Solid written and oral communication skills in French and English. This position requires working with documents written in English and regular communication with partners outside Quebec, therefore knowledge of English is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite. Knowledge of corporate systems (e.g., SAP) is an asset.
  • Membership in the Ordre des conseillers en ressources humaines agréés (an asset).

Responsibilities

  • Manages, develops, and mobilizes a team of health and safety professionals to meet business needs and contribute to the organization's overall performance.
  • Collaborates closely with other members of management and ensures that OHS strategies, programs, and processes are aligned with the organization's culture, mission, vision, and values.
  • Plays a strategic advisory role to managers and acts as an internal expert on OHS issues, both in terms of prevention and complex file management.
  • Develops and implements prevention strategies adapted to the manufacturing environment, including risk analysis, machine safety, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, and occupational health.
  • Supports managers in identifying and managing organizational factors impacting mental health, absenteeism, and work capacity, and integrates the prevention of psychosocial risks and psychological health into the HSE management system, in collaboration with HR teams.
  • Contributes to the sustainable reduction of absenteeism and accident rates through preventive and integrated approaches.
  • Supervises the management of claims, occupational injury files, and complex files, including disputes, challenges, and grievances, in collaboration with internal and external partners.
  • Represents the employer before various bodies.
  • Manages and optimizes CNESST funding and recommends strategies to improve financial performance in OHS.
  • Develops the organization's capacity in terms of prevention culture, OHS leadership, and change management.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable occupational health and safety laws and regulations in various Canadian jurisdictions.
  • Is responsible for the maintenance, evolution, and continuous improvement of the HSE management system, including ISO 45001 certification.
  • Is responsible for the organization's emergency measures program and ensures its maintenance, evolution, and continuous improvement to strengthen organizational preparedness, responsiveness, and resilience.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors key OHS performance indicators aligned with business needs and corporate objectives.
  • Actively contributes to corporate and cross-functional projects in close collaboration with HR and operations teams.
