About The Position

Services for the UnderServed (S:US) is hiring a Direct Support Professional to support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in living their best lives in a safe environment. The Day Habilitation Specialist provides skill development through a combination of community and classroom learning experiences. This opportunity is at the organization’s program on 149th Street in the Bronx. The position offers flexible scheduling and 1199 union benefits. S:US describes an organization-wide internal promotion rate of 10 percent.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
At least one year of experience providing direct care services to adults with a developmental disability.
AMAP certified.
SCIP-R trained.
CPR and First Aid trained.

Nice To Haves

Associate degree preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist each consumer with skill development in independent living, adaptive behaviors, socialization, recreation, and activities of daily living.
Supervise consumers in the community, using experiences to reinforce skills taught in group sessions while ensuring their safety.
Lead group sessions and facilitate discussions that teach skills for use in the community.
Provide annual and semi-annual progress reports regarding valued outcomes.
Assess the needs of lower-functioning and/or non-verbal consumers through observations and evaluations, and develop and address their valued outcomes.
Provide input on and ensure compliance with valued outcomes in the ISP and Day Habilitation Plan.
Document weekly the outcomes being worked toward with each individual in accordance with their Day Habilitation Plan.
