About The Position

As a Direct Support Professional for Devereux, you will provide safe and appropriate care for individuals with intellectual disabilities. This role involves supervising residents, ensuring their physical, emotional, and personal needs are met, and assisting with daily routines, including hygiene tasks and community outings. You will also attend in-service training programs to develop your skills and perform related duties as assigned. Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health Pocono Center provides programs and services for adults with developmental disabilities, focusing on assisting individuals with activities of daily living and promoting growth in functional skills, personal needs, communication, and personal adjustment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Valid Driver's License required
  • Ability to complete required new hire orientation class
  • Possess a valid license
  • Ability to meet 100% mastery of Safe and Positive Approaches
  • Significant amounts of walking, sitting, and standing
  • Some lifting and/or managing resistance required related to applying physical intervention techniques upwards of 50 lbs. or more
  • Some repetitive wrist/hand movements, normal hearing and vision
  • Occasional use of computers and office equipment
  • Occasional driving of Devereux vehicles for business purposes

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year of human service experience working with children, adolescents, or adults preferred
  • Be empathetic, a team player, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, energetic, creative, understand the theories of behavior management and positive reinforcement, and represent yourself as a positive role model

Responsibilities

  • Provide safe and appropriate care for all Pocono Center residents
  • Be responsible for supervision of residents and seeing that their physical, emotional and personal needs are met
  • Assist in hygiene tasks such as showering or toileting
  • Support individuals throughout daily routine, including joining them in community outings
  • Attend in-service training programs to develop skills
  • Perform related duties, special assignments and projects as assigned by coordinator
