Direct Support Professional- FT Overnight
About The Position
ACLD is a not-for-profit agency serving people with developmental disabilities. Direct Support Professionals work in a residential setting, assisting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to become more self-sufficient and self-actualized. The position focuses on helping people achieve personal goals, providing structure and emotional support, addressing behavioral issues, supporting personal hygiene, documenting care, and transporting participants to appointments and activities. Cooking and light housekeeping may also be required. This is a full-time overnight position scheduled Tuesday through Saturday, 12 a.m. to 8 a.m., for 40 hours per week.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Clean, valid New York State driver’s license.
- Ability to communicate and understand English verbally and in writing.
- Must obtain and maintain AMAP and SCIP certifications.
- Ability to perform SCIP maneuvers, which may require bending, twisting, kneeling, crouching, lying on the ground, and supporting another person’s body weight.
- Ability to reach, bend, twist, kneel, and squat while assisting people with physical activities.
- Ability to assist with lifting and transferring a person, and to lift up to 15 pounds.
Nice To Haves
- Some experience working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities; training is available.
- Prior experience as a caregiver, care assistant, personal assistant, resident assistant, direct care worker, nursing assistant, home care aide, or companion.
Responsibilities
- Help people supported achieve or exceed their personal goals.
- Provide structure and emotional support.
- Assist in resolving behavioral issues.
- Help people supported with personal hygiene needs.
- Complete detailed, accurate documentation.
- Transport program participants to and from medical appointments and recreational activities using agency vehicles.
- Perform cooking and light housekeeping as required.
- Assist with physical activities, including lifting and transferring a person.
