About The Position

ACLD is seeking Direct Support Professionals to work in a residential setting supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The role helps people supported become more self-sufficient and self-actualized, achieve their personal goals, and participate in medical appointments and recreational activities. The position includes providing structure and emotional support, assisting with behavioral issues and personal hygiene, completing accurate documentation, and transporting participants in Agency vehicles. Cooking and light housekeeping may also be required. The schedule is Tuesday through Saturday, 12 a.m. to 8 a.m., for 40 hours per week.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Clean, valid New York State driver’s license.
• Ability to communicate and understand English verbally and in writing.
• Obtain and maintain AMAP and SCIP certifications.
• Ability to perform SCIP maneuvers that may require bending, twisting, kneeling, crouching, lying on the ground, and supporting another person’s body weight.
• Ability to reach, bend, twist, kneel, and squat while assisting people with physical activities.
• Ability to assist with lifting and transferring a person.
• Ability to lift up to 15 lbs.

Nice To Haves

• Some experience working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities; training will be provided.
• Prior experience as a Caregiver, Care Assistant, Personal Assistant, Resident Assistant, Direct Care Worker, Nursing Assistant, Home Care Aide, or Companion.

Responsibilities

• Help people supported achieve or exceed their personal goals.

• Transport program participants to and from medical appointments and recreation activities using Agency vehicles.
