About The Position
As a Direct Support Professional, you will provide guidance, encouragement, support, comfort, security, and safety through relationship building and direct interaction with individuals receiving services. You will advocate for individuals in all aspects of life, including medical needs and community engagement, while supporting personal choice. You will respond to situations and emergencies, help individuals develop essential living skills and greater independence, and support them in pursuing the life they hope for. You will provide transportation to appointments and other events they choose, maintain documentation and records, and participate in periodic meetings and trainings as required by regulations. This is an overnight position that allows for approximately five hours of sleep per night; concerns that arise overnight or in the morning are expected to be addressed. Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota serves children, youth and families, people with disabilities, older adults, and military veterans. A $2,000 hiring bonus is offered to eligible hires who work at least 40% FTE, remain current on trainings, maintain employment in good standing, and work all scheduled shifts. Pay is $13.96 per hour, with an opportunity to increase to up to $14.46 per hour after six months of consistent employment.
Requirements
- Successfully meet background-check requirements.
- Have computer skills to support Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota technology and basic math skills.
- Be able to read, write, and solve problems.
- Recognize boundaries and demonstrate patience, self-control, and flexibility.
- Be able to suggest and implement strategies to enhance the service.
- Successfully complete medication administration training; this may be completed after hire.
- Obtain CPR/First Aid certification; this may be obtained after hire.
Nice To Haves
- At least one year of experience and/or training with individuals with disabilities.
- Mental Health certification; this may be obtained after hire.
