About The Position

As a Direct Support Professional, you will build relationships and interact directly with individuals receiving services, providing guidance, encouragement, support, comfort, security, and safety. You will advocate for individuals in all aspects of life, including medical needs and community engagement, while supporting their personal choices. You will respond to situations and emergencies, help individuals develop essential living skills and greater independence, and support them in living lives that reflect their hopes and dreams. You will provide transportation to appointments and other events individuals choose, maintain documentation and records, and participate in periodic meetings and trainings as required by regulations. This is an overnight position that allows for approximately five hours of sleep per night; concerns during the night and morning hours are expected to be addressed.

The advertised pay is $13.96 per hour, with an opportunity to earn up to $14.46 per hour after six months of consistent employment. A $2,000 hiring bonus is offered to eligible employees who meet the stated conditions.

Requirements

• Successfully meet the requirements of a background check.
• Have computer skills to support Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota technology and basic math skills.
• Be able to read, write, and solve problems.
• Recognize boundaries and exhibit patience, self-control, and flexibility.
• Be able to suggest and implement strategies to enhance services.
• Successfully complete medication administration training; this may be obtained after hire.
• Obtain CPR/First Aid certification; this may be obtained after hire.
• To qualify for the hiring bonus, meet at least 40% FTE, remain up to date on all trainings, maintain employment in good standing, and work all scheduled shifts.

Nice To Haves

• At least one year of experience and/or training with individuals with disabilities is desired.
• Mental Health certification is desired and may be obtained after hire.
