Direct Support Professional, Day Program
About The Position
PathPoint is hiring a full-time Direct Support Professional for its Life Skills Plus day program in Thousand Oaks, California. The program provides skills training and support to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The role leads in-person, community-based, and virtual classes covering topics such as art, music, cooking, volunteering, and other life and vocational skills. The organization welcomes staff ideas for new curriculum. This hourly, non-exempt role is scheduled Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The work environment may include a mix of indoor and outdoor settings. The position starts at $26.00 per hour, with a stated pay range of $24.70 to $27.30 per hour; pay may vary based on a variety of factors.
Requirements
- Demonstrate patience and compassion, and interact positively and constructively with individuals with disabilities, their family members, and others.
- Be comfortable working both indoors and outdoors.
- Hold a valid California driver's license, have a satisfactory driving record, and be eligible for coverage under PathPoint's auto insurance policy.
- Demonstrate cultural awareness, collaborate across cultures, acknowledge diverse employee backgrounds, and avoid biased assumptions based on cultural differences.
- Have a high school diploma or GED.
Responsibilities
- Teach social and life skills, including communication, mobility, money management, housing, and public transportation, to help individuals live more independently.
- Teach vocational skills to help prepare individuals for entry-level employment.
- Supervise individuals during instruction, community outings, and volunteer activities.
- Build friendly and professional rapport with individuals and serve as a positive role model for work habits, communication, and social skills.
- Prepare weekly schedules, monthly training projections, and written progress reports.
