About The Position
Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board (H-NNCSB) is hiring Full-Time Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to provide person-centered care to adults in our residential and community-based programs. As a DSP, you will support adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD), serious mental illness (SMI), and substance use disorders (SUD) while promoting independence, dignity, choice, and community involvement.
Requirements
- Intermediate Care Facility (ICF): One year of direct care experience working with adults living with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental illness or experience working in an Intermediate Care Facility.
- Waiver & Day Support: One year of direct care experience working with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities or mental illness.
- Regional Supervised Housing: One year of direct care experience working with adults with serious mental illness.
Responsibilities
- Provide hands-on direct care and support based on each individual's needs and service plan.
- Responsibilities may include personal care, activities of daily living, meal preparation, medication support, household routines, and community activities.
- In ICF settings, direct care may also include providing total-care assistance and using a Hoyer lift for safe transfers and mobility support.
- Encourage independence, monitor individuals' well-being, maintain accurate documentation, and work with program staff to provide safe and consistent support.
