About The Position

Indera is seeking a part-time Direct Support Professional to provide one-to-one support to a 34-year-old man in the Syracuse, New York area. The role supports his independence and quality of life by helping him participate more in the community, complete chores in his apartment, and exercise at the YMCA. His interests include animals, dancing, fishing, swimming, cooking and learning recipes, and video games. The ideal candidate is creative, engaging, active, patient, willing to travel to different locations, comfortable working around the individual's caged rodent pets, and able to redirect behaviors and responses and support regulation.

The position is 30 hours per week, with flexible availability throughout the week. On Sundays, the individual is available after 10 a.m.; on Thursdays, he is available until 1 p.m. Additional hours may be available supporting other people receiving services through the agency. Starting pay is $19.25 per hour and increases with years of relevant experience.

Requirements

• Must have a valid driver's license.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Effective communication and organizational skills.
• Flexibility with assignments and schedule.
• Reliable transportation to arrive at the job site at the scheduled time.
• Must have technology available to download multiple apps for use in the community and abide by Indera's technology policy.
• Must be comfortable working around animals, specifically rodents.

• Experience working with people with developmental disabilities.
