About The Position

Our In-Home Support Specialists are committed to facilitate, model, and build skills that will lead to the optimal independence of the people we support. This role involves assisting individuals with daily activities, personal care, community involvement, and supporting therapeutic plans. The position requires a positive work ethic, the ability to work with limited supervision, and a commitment to advocating for and protecting participants' rights with respect and dignity. The ideal candidate will maintain a mature and positive attitude, work cooperatively with others, and serve as a positive role model.

Requirements

  • Ability to mentor and assist people in all areas of life skills including recreation, independence, communication, and health.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Basic computer aptitude.
  • Ability to speak/write in English.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license, privately owned vehicle, and evidence of insurance.

  • Prior experience working with people who have developmental and physical disabilities preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate, model, and build skills for optimal independence.
  • Assist with daily activities such as meal preparation and planning.
  • Provide personal care.
  • Facilitate community involvement by accompanying individuals on outings.
  • Provide transportation to recreational and community activities.
  • Support therapeutic and behavioral plans.
  • Advocate for and protect participants’ rights.
  • Treat all individuals with respect and dignity.
  • Encourage opportunities that promote choice.
  • Maintain a mature and positive attitude.
  • Work with a spirit of cooperation.
  • Carry out all job responsibilities in a professional manner.
  • Attend all agency staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Maintain attendance and adhere to policies on attendance, days of absence, and illness.
  • Keep supervisor informed of any significant events or the need to modify any area of the operation/activity.
  • Serve as a positive and appropriate role model.
  • Provide advocacy for participants based on their personal choice and individual plan.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with participants, their families, and providers.
  • Respond to the needs of participants, families, and providers in a timely and professional manner.
