A Direct Support Professional ensures individuals' health, safety and welfare, enhances the quality of individuals' lives, and supports community inclusion. This role involves ultimate responsibility for client programming and care, ensuring residents have adequate food, shelter, and clothing. The position requires providing first aid and nursing assistance, individual assessment and instruction in daily living skills, and assisting with lifting, transferring, and positioning as prescribed. Responsibilities also include preparing meals, intervening in crisis situations, supporting community outings, monitoring and dispensing medications, and adhering to physician's orders. The Direct Support Professional will provide programming as written by the Program Coordinator, communicate programming information, ensure staffing ratios are met, and demonstrate cultural beliefs in daily interactions. Utilizing the least restrictive prompting, following behavior and crisis management plans, and participating in meetings and training are also key aspects of the role. Timely and accurate documentation of programming, client care, and medical information is essential. The role also involves assisting with residence cleanliness, following universal precautions, demonstrating flexibility with scheduling, protecting client confidentiality, and professionally representing Citizen Advocates, Inc.
