About The Position

Carey Services is seeking a passionate Direct Support Professional (DSP) for their Group Home in Hartford City, IN. This full-time, 2nd shift position involves supporting individuals with diverse abilities to foster independence and promote a fulfilling life. The most rewarding aspect of being a DSP is supporting the individuals served and witnessing their realization of belonging and value. Daily activities can include grocery shopping, outdoor activities, playing games, watching movies, cooking, cleaning, going out for coffee or lunch, learning crafts, and creating art together.

Requirements

  • Must have a love for people and desire to help them
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Must possess adequate automobile insurance
  • Must meet agency insurability requirements
  • Must be able to learn basic principles of teaching (instruction provided)
  • Must have good basic mathematical computation and English Language writing knowledge
  • Ability to walk, bend, stoop or stand for extended periods
  • Must be able to assist in lifting or transferring individuals to and from wheel chairs
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, masks, gowns, face shields, shoes, ear plugs, etc.
  • Must be able to follow all required safe and universal precaution practices during a pandemic and as required otherwise
  • Must know first aid, health & safety measures or build an acceptable competence level by post-hire training.

  • Responding appropriately to behavioral or medical needs
  • Providing direct support, instruction, and assistance to persons with disabilities (I/DD) living in the community.
  • Ensuring health and safety, community inclusion, and daily living skills.
