About The Position

The Oregon Department of Human Services’ Stabilization and Crisis Unit (SACU) is hiring a limited-duration, full-time Health Crisis Technician in Portland. The position is expected to last up to one year from the hire date, though the assignment may end earlier based on workload and program needs. Limited-duration employees receive health benefits, leave accrual, and union representation. SACU may allow limited-duration employees to apply if permanent funding becomes available. SACU provides 24-hour residential care to Oregonians with intellectual and developmental disabilities, often alongside mental health diagnoses, whose needs exceed those typically supported in community-based residential programs. The program supports residents’ safe transition back to their home communities and promotes quality of life, independence, and social opportunities through health and medical support, psychological services, emotional and behavioral support, education, life-skills training, recreation, and community integration. SACU operates 17 residential group homes along the I-5 corridor from Portland to Eugene. Health Crisis Technicians provide direct care in a 24-hour residential medical group home, supporting residents’ behavioral, safety, medical, health, hygiene, nutrition, housekeeping, and other daily needs at home and in the community. They help maintain a safe and sanitary home and work independently and with colleagues to promote a therapeutic environment. Available assignments may include day, evening, night, weekend, vacation-relief, or float-pool shifts, depending on openings. The posting provides schedules and conditions for these shift types, including possible schedule changes and, for float-pool staff, an additional 10% above base pay during the assignment. Selected candidates attend three weeks of paid in-person training in Salem and must obtain First Aid/CPR, Oregon Intervention System, and Medication Administration certifications. The role requires driving residents and may involve lifting, transferring, positioning, and moving individuals and supplies; frequent bending, squatting, and stooping; exposure to cleaning agents and occasional inclement weather; and occasional participation in water activities.
