Airport Programs Specialist (Limited Duration)
About The Position
The Oregon Department of Aviation is hiring an Airport Programs Specialist to support the administration and operation of the state-operated airports and to create and administer programs that improve safety, equity, engagement, and compliance with applicable rules and regulations. The position partners closely with the State Airports Manager and Operations team, recommends improvements, and helps resolve airport-related issues. It is a limited-duration appointment expected to end on or before June 30, 2027, with the potential to become permanent. The appointment is benefits eligible. The role is based primarily in a central office or airport environment and involves extensive interaction with the public to provide information, assistance, and issue resolution. Travel to airports throughout Oregon and occasional out-of-state travel is required. Hybrid work is available with manager approval. Some evening and weekend work may be required based on agency needs.
Requirements
- A combination of experience or education equivalent to five years of experience in airport operations, management, or program planning, coordination, or administration; alternatively, a bachelor's degree in airport management, business or public administration, behavioral or social sciences, or a related degree demonstrating capacity for the required knowledge and skills, plus two years of experience planning, coordinating, or administering a program.
- Valid US driver's license and acceptable driving record; driving is an essential function of the position.
- Excellent verbal and written conflict resolution skills.
- Demonstrated computer proficiency, including creating and editing documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.
Nice To Haves
- Prior airport operations, management, or other aviation experience.
- Airport Certified Employee (ACE) and Certified Member (C.M.) certifications from the American Association of Airport Executives, or other aviation credentials.
Responsibilities
- Provide administrative support to the State Airports Manager and Operations team.
- Facilitate policy and rule updates and maintain airport compliance.
- Respond to questions and issues from the public and maintain positive community relations.
- Develop and administer state airport programs, including training, community outreach, complaint tracking, and volunteer coordination.
- Expand existing programs and establish new programs to support safe and efficient airport operations.
- Research and evaluate program effectiveness to meet airport and community needs.
- Support airport functions and provide technical assistance to the State Airports Manager and staff.
- Travel to airports throughout Oregon and occasionally out of state.
