About The Position
Join RTR as a Direct Care 2 supporting individuals with developmental disabilities in a residential setting. Working closely with the Residential Manager and team, you will provide hands-on daily care, skill-building, and support to help individuals live safely, independently, and meaningfully. The role involves work in both the home and the community, including personal care, behavioral support, physical assistance, and maintaining a structured living environment. This is an active position that may also include household and occasional safety-related tasks. Candidates should be dependable, compassionate, and team-oriented, comfortable providing hands-on support, and committed to helping individuals build independence and stability. A bachelor’s degree or at least one year of direct human-services experience for non-degreed applicants is required. A valid driver’s license, basic computer skills, required training, and background screening authorizations are also required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree, or at least one year of direct experience in human services for applicants without a degree.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and the internet.
- Successful completion and maintenance of all state- and agency-mandated training, including medication administration.
- Willingness to authorize a Criminal History Background Check (CORI) and release of information concerning allegations from the Disabled Persons Protection Commission (DPPC), Department of Developmental Services (DDS), and other agencies.
- Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily, with reasonable accommodations where applicable.
- Fluent in English; able to read and interpret business, professional, technical, and government materials; write reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals; and communicate effectively with individuals under supervision, employees, families, and community members.
- Ability to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
- Ability to meet the role’s physical demands, including frequently lifting or moving up to 25 pounds and occasionally lifting or moving up to 60 pounds.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct support and skill-building in daily living activities.
- Assist individuals with personal care, including hygiene, meals, dressing, and mobility.
- Support participation in community activities, appointments, and social events.
- Provide transportation as required.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized home environment.
- Complete daily documentation and shift reports.
- Administer medications according to established procedures.
- Implement behavioral support plans and trained safety interventions when needed.
- Support individuals with medical appointments and related documentation.
- Participate in team meetings, training, and ongoing development.
- Provide coaching and support to new staff as directed.
