Digital Product Manager, Internal Customer Applications

James Hardie•Berwyn, IL
•$106,700 - $133,400

About The Position

The Digital Product Manager for Internal Customer Applications is the accountable owner of James Hardie’s internal customer-facing product portfolio. The role defines customer problems and business opportunities, owns product vision, roadmaps, prioritization, and success measures, and is accountable for whether tools improve adoption, confidence, and conversion. Product ownership and IT manage delivery and technical implementation; this position determines what should be built and why. The role conducts discovery with internal users, Sales, and Customer Experience; turns evidence into problem statements, value cases, and success criteria; and presents investment cases to the project management office and Finance. It owns the roadmap for Product IQ and future internal customer-facing tools, aligns Marketing, Sales, and Customer Experience on release outcomes, and governs which products enter the roadmap. The position provides product ownership with context, acceptance criteria, and priorities; collaborates with IT on feasibility, complexity, integrations, and sequencing; and reviews delivered work against intended outcomes. It defines product KPIs and analytics needs before launch, monitors adoption, task completion, product confidence, and conversion, and continuously optimizes products using performance findings. Product IQ will be the primary focus during the first year. The role will assess the tool’s history and current performance, establish a baseline, and create a product roadmap and measurement framework. This work is intended to establish a repeatable product-management model for future internal tools.

Requirements

  • Five or more years of experience in digital product management or product ownership, including some ownership of product direction and rationale rather than only backlog management.
  • Experience taking a digital tool from discovery through launch and post-launch optimization.
  • Comfort working with internal users as customers, including helping change how they work.
  • Fluency in agile delivery, roadmap planning, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Practical analytics skills, including defining KPIs, interpreting data, and acting on findings.
  • Familiarity with Jira, backlog refinement, user acceptance testing coordination, and stakeholder communication.
  • Strong user empathy and a demonstrated habit of turning insights into product decisions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in building products, construction, or another business-to-business or business-to-business-to-consumer environment.
  • Background with product configurators, guided selling, or sales enablement tools.
  • Familiarity with Workfront, customer data platforms, or CRM ecosystems.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct discovery with internal users, Sales, and Customer Experience to identify where existing tools fail.
  • Translate discovery findings into clear problem statements, value cases, and success criteria.
  • Build investment business cases and present them to the project management office and Finance for scope and value review.
  • Distinguish customer problems from feature requests and document the rationale for decisions, including declining requests.
  • Own the product vision and roadmap for Product IQ and subsequent internal customer-facing tools.
  • Set and defend priorities, keeping roadmap decisions connected to business outcomes.
  • Align Marketing, Sales, and Customer Experience around a shared definition of success for each release.
  • Govern which products enter the roadmap so tools are managed as products rather than delivered as one-off builds.
  • Provide product ownership with context, acceptance criteria, and priorities needed to build the backlog.
  • Work with IT to assess feasibility, complexity, integration, and sequencing before commitments are made.
  • Review delivered outcomes against product intent and use Jira and Workfront as systems of record.
  • Define KPIs for each product and ensure necessary analytics are in place before launch.
  • Monitor adoption, task completion, and downstream effects on product confidence and conversion.
  • Run a continuous optimization cycle and feed findings into the roadmap on a regular cadence.
  • For Product IQ, understand what has been built and why, establish a performance baseline, and create a roadmap and measurement framework.
