Digital Product Designer

Urban Ridge Supplies•New York, NY
•$90,000 - $210,000•Onsite

About The Position

Ajaia is hiring a hands-on Digital Product Designer to lead discovery and design for client engagements and Ajaia’s own product suite. The designer will speak with and observe people doing the work, identify gaps between reported and actual behavior, and translate findings into user journeys, wireframes, and prototypes engineers can build from. Designs must be tested with real users before production code is written, and the designer will maintain the standard for how Ajaia’s products look and behave. The role combines research and design rather than separating them across handoffs. Daily use of AI tools is a core execution requirement. The designer will use AI throughout research, synthesis, wireframing, and prototyping, exercise judgment about what to retain or revise, and stay current with design and prototyping tools. The position is on-site in New York and involves client-site travel for discovery work.

Requirements

  • Conducts discovery independently, including interviews, usability testing, and analysis of behavioral data.
  • Moves quickly from synthesis to a working prototype.
  • Can design human checkpoints into workflows rather than adding them later.
  • Can confidently present and defend evidence-based conclusions that may differ from stakeholder expectations.
  • Uses AI daily for research, synthesis, and prototyping, and can assess the quality of its output.
  • Comfortable working directly with engineers during development.
  • No minimum years of experience required; hiring is based on work.
  • Must work on-site in New York and travel to client sites for discovery work.

Nice To Haves

  • A public portfolio or case studies available for review before an interview.
  • Experience designing AI-native workflows, including determining where human checkpoints belong.
  • Consulting, agency, or professional services experience with concurrent clients.
  • Comfort with lightweight front-end implementation.
  • A bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Run discovery for client engagements by interviewing and observing people doing the work.
  • Conduct research with users of Ajaia’s own products.
  • Synthesize findings into distinct statements of user needs and user requests, supported by evidence.
  • Create user journeys, wireframes, and prototypes that engineers can build from without guessing.
  • Design human sign-off checkpoints into workflows.
  • Test designs with real users before code exists.
  • Challenge stakeholder feature requests when research evidence points elsewhere and explain the reasoning in actionable terms.
  • Maintain design standards across Ajaia’s product suite.
  • Use AI tools as a default for prototyping and determine when AI-native approaches save time versus require manual rebuilding.
  • Hand off implementation-ready design work and stay involved during development to identify deviations from design intent.

Benefits

  • Competitive benefits.
  • Performance bonus of up to 100% of base salary.
