Digital Product Designer

Urban Ridge Supplies•New York, NY
•$90,000 - $210,000•Onsite

About The Position

Ajaia is hiring a hands-on Digital Product Designer to lead discovery and design on client engagements and Ajaia’s own product suite. The designer will speak with and observe the people doing the work, translate findings into user journeys, wireframes, and build-ready prototypes, and test designs with real users before production code is written. The role owns the design standard across Ajaia’s products and stays involved during implementation to identify drift from the design intent. The position combines research and design rather than handing those responsibilities between people. Daily use of AI tools is a core execution requirement, including moving from interview notes to synthesis, wireframes, and clickable prototypes. The designer is expected to evaluate AI-generated work, know when it needs human refinement, and stay current with design and prototyping tools. Compensation is $90,000 to $210,000 base depending on experience, plus a performance bonus of up to 100% of base salary. The role is on-site in New York and includes client-site travel for discovery work.

Requirements

  • Independently conduct discovery, including interviews, usability testing, and analysis of behavioral data.
  • Move quickly from synthesis to a working prototype.
  • Design human checkpoints into workflows rather than adding them later.
  • Be comfortable presenting and defending evidence-based recommendations when stakeholders may not expect them.
  • Use AI daily for research, synthesis, and prototyping, and distinguish useful output from poor-quality output.
  • Work directly alongside engineers during implementation.
  • Work on-site in New York and travel to client sites for discovery work.
  • No minimum years of experience required; hiring is based on the work.

Nice To Haves

  • A public portfolio or case studies available for review.
  • Experience designing AI-native workflows, including determining where human checkpoints belong.
  • Consulting, agency, or professional services experience with concurrent clients.
  • Comfort with lightweight front-end implementation.
  • A bachelor's degree is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead discovery on client engagements by interviewing and observing people doing the work.
  • Conduct discovery with users of Ajaia’s own products using the same rigor as client engagements.
  • Synthesize findings into users’ needs, distinguishing those needs from what users requested and documenting supporting evidence.
  • Design user journeys, wireframes, and prototypes that engineers can build from without guessing.
  • Design appropriate human sign-off checkpoints into workflows.
  • Test designs with real users before production code is written.
  • Challenge stakeholder feature lists when research evidence points elsewhere and explain the rationale in actionable terms.
  • Own and maintain the design standard across Ajaia’s product suite.
  • Use AI tools as a default for prototyping, judging when AI-native approaches save time and when outputs need to be rebuilt by hand.
  • Hand off design work in a build-ready state and remain involved during implementation to catch deviations from design intent.

Benefits

  • Competitive benefits.
  • Performance bonus of up to 100% of base salary.
