Digital Product Designer

Urban Ridge Supplies•New York, NY
•Onsite

About The Position

Ajaia is an AI implementation consultancy and product studio that helps organizations achieve measurable returns from AI through strategy and advisory, workforce training and enablement, process optimization, and custom AI development. The Digital Product Designer leads discovery and design for client engagements and Ajaia’s product suite. This is a hands-on role combining user research and design, from observing how people work and identifying their needs to producing journeys, wireframes, and prototypes that engineers can build from. The designer tests designs with real users before production code is written, establishes and maintains design standards across Ajaia’s products, and collaborates directly with engineers during implementation. Daily use of AI tools is a core execution requirement for research, synthesis, and prototyping; the designer is responsible for evaluating AI output and applying judgment about when it needs refinement or manual work. The role is on-site in New York and includes travel to client sites for discovery work. Compensation is $90,000 to $210,000 base, depending on experience, plus a performance bonus of up to 100% of base salary. Ajaia offers competitive benefits.

Requirements

  • Able to independently conduct discovery, including interviews, usability testing, and analysis of behavioral data.
  • Able to move quickly from synthesis to a working prototype.
  • Able to design human checkpoints into workflows.
  • Comfortable presenting and defending evidence-based findings when stakeholders do not expect them.
  • Uses AI tools daily for research, synthesis, and prototyping and can evaluate the quality of their output.
  • Comfortable working directly with engineers through implementation.
  • No minimum years of experience required; candidates are evaluated on their work.
  • On-site in New York, with travel to client sites for discovery work.

Nice To Haves

  • A public portfolio or case studies available for review.
  • Experience designing AI-native workflows, including determining where human checkpoints belong.
  • Consulting, agency, or professional services experience with concurrent clients.
  • Comfort with lightweight front-end implementation.
  • A bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct discovery on client engagements by interviewing and observing people doing the work, identifying differences between what they say and what they do.
  • Conduct research with users of Ajaia’s own products using the same rigor as client engagements.
  • Synthesize research into evidence-backed user needs, distinguishing those needs from what users request.
  • Design user journeys, wireframes, and prototypes that engineers can implement without guessing.
  • Design human approval checkpoints into workflows where needed.
  • Test designs with real users before production code is written.
  • Challenge stakeholder feature requests when research evidence points elsewhere and explain the reasoning clearly.
  • Maintain design standards across Ajaia’s product suite.
  • Use AI tools by default for research, synthesis, and prototyping, and assess when AI-generated work needs manual refinement.
  • Hand off implementation-ready design work and work alongside engineers during the build to identify deviations from the design intent.

Benefits

  • Competitive benefits.
  • Performance bonus of up to 100% of base salary.
