About The Position

Lightmatter is hiring a Digital Design Engineer to help develop an ASIC for a next-generation artificial intelligence computing architecture. The role involves developing RTL with design-for-test considerations and integrating silicon photonic communication and compute technology into digital accelerator designs. The engineer will collaborate with architecture, design verification, physical design, photonics, analog, and software teams to deliver high-performance, low-power designs in advanced technology nodes. The role includes creating design specifications and module documentation, managing RTL implementation, and identifying, communicating, and mitigating risks to keep designs functionally correct and on schedule. The position offers a competitive compensation package that includes base salary, equity awards, and other rewards. The stated salary range is $154,000–$218,000 USD.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in ASIC design or similar high-speed chip design, with multiple successful tape-outs.
  • Proficiency in SystemVerilog or Verilog for digital logic design.
  • Proven experience debugging complex logic and mixed-signal simulations using industry-standard EDA tools, such as Synopsys VCS, Cadence Xcelium, Questa, or equivalent mixed-signal co-simulation environments.
  • Demonstrated track record of delivering high-performance, low-power digital designs in advanced semiconductor process nodes.
  • Capacity to comply with federally mandated U.S. export control requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with communication protocols such as PCIe.
  • Knowledge of processor design, accelerators, and/or memory hierarchies.
  • Exposure to silicon photonics, optical compute/interconnect architectures, or electro-optic interface integration.
  • Strong scripting skills in Python, Perl, Tcl, or Bash to automate simulation and design workflows.
  • Experience interfacing digital logic directly with analog mixed-signal IP, such as SerDes, ADCs/DACs, or optical transceivers.

Responsibilities

  • Develop RTL modules, such as SystemVerilog, with design-for-test considerations for IC development.
  • Debug complex logic and mixed-signal simulations.
  • Understand and integrate silicon photonic communication and compute technology into digital accelerator design.
  • Work with architecture, design verification, physical design, photonics, analog, and software teams to realize high-performance, low-power designs in advanced technology nodes.
  • Create design specifications and documentation to facilitate collaboration with partner teams.
  • Document module functionality and timing.
  • Manage RTL implementation to achieve functionally correct, performant designs within project schedules.
  • Identify, communicate, and mitigate project risks.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive health care plan, including medical, dental, and vision.
  • Retirement savings matching program.
  • Basic, voluntary, and AD&D life insurance.
  • Vacation, sick time, and public holidays.
  • Paid family leave.
  • Short-term and long-term disability.
