Digital Architect

Sanofi•Cambridge, MA
•$133,500 - $192,833

About The Position

The Digital Architect will provide hands-on technical leadership for Sanofi’s Patient Services domain, shaping and governing the technology backbone for global Patient Support Programs. The role owns architecture decisions across digital experiences, cloud platforms, integrations, patient data flows, analytics, and AI, translating patient journeys, business capabilities, and regulatory requirements into scalable designs. It includes creating implementation-ready architecture deliverables and guiding solutions from design through delivery. The architect will evolve the Patient Experience technology roadmap and promote modernization, platform simplification, reuse, and sound cloud-native design. The position covers integrations among patient experience platforms, specialty pharmacies, service providers, enterprise platforms, and external partners, along with secure patient data sharing for operations, analytics, personalization, and AI. The role also defines architecture for Generative AI and Agentic AI, including secure agent workflows, interoperability patterns, MCP servers, and responsible AI guardrails. It ensures privacy, security, compliance, resilience, and alignment with enterprise architecture standards, while collaborating with business and technical stakeholders and supporting the architectural capabilities of engineering teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, plus 5 years of experience in technical architecture or senior engineering roles designing integrations and platforms; alternatively, 7 years of such experience. A degree is listed as required in the first pathway, with specified fields preferred.
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect certification is required.
  • Hands-on experience designing secure, resilient, scalable cloud-native solutions on AWS.
  • Deep command of enterprise integration patterns, including API, batch, event-driven, asynchronous messaging, and orchestration across distributed systems.
  • Experience architecting Salesforce integrations or related CRM/patient engagement platforms.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code such as Terraform, AWS CloudFormation/CDK, or equivalent, integrated with modern CI/CD and DevSecOps practices.
  • Ability to communicate complex architecture clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders and drive decisions across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience with enterprise architecture governance frameworks, including reference architectures, technology standards, architecture reviews, ADRs, and exception processes.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience integrating data into cloud data platforms such as Snowflake and using enterprise integration tools such as Informatica/IICS or comparable platforms for operational and analytical data integration.
  • Practical understanding of Generative AI, LLMs, AI agents, RAG, tool/function calling, and agentic workflows, ideally with implementation experience.
  • Experience with or strong working knowledge of MCP, Agent-to-Agent architectures, and emerging agent interoperability patterns.
  • Strong grasp of OAuth/OIDC, IAM, API security, encryption, secrets management, and least-privilege design.
  • Experience with the C4 model and architecture modeling tools such as IcePanel.
  • Experience in life sciences, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, Patient Services, or another highly regulated environment handling sensitive patient or health data.
  • Commitment to staying technically current and maintaining certifications and hands-on skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end architecture for the Patient Experience domain, translating patient journeys, business capabilities, and regulatory requirements into scalable technical designs.
  • Create hands-on architecture deliverables, including blueprints, current- and target-state architectures, ADRs, and C4 models.
  • Own and evolve the Patient Experience technology roadmap, addressing modernization, capability gaps, technical debt, and emerging technology adoption.
  • Select and apply appropriate API-first, event-driven, domain-driven, serverless, and microservices patterns based on business and technical context.
  • Drive platform simplification and reuse by consolidating capabilities, rationalizing applications, and reducing point-to-point dependencies.
  • Ensure cloud infrastructure is defined and managed through reusable, version-controlled Infrastructure as Code.
  • Architect integrations with specialty pharmacies, patient service providers, enterprise platforms, and external partners, including hands-on use of AWS serverless services.
  • Establish reusable integration patterns and standards for APIs, events, messaging, orchestration, batch and real-time processing, resiliency, observability, error handling, and lifecycle management.
  • Define reusable APIs, events, and data contracts for brands, patient programs, and digital experiences.
  • Architect patient data flows across Salesforce, Snowflake, Informatica/IICS, AWS, and external partners for operational workflows, analytics, personalization, and AI.
  • Enable secure sharing of patient interactions, engagement history, consent, and preferences across authorized systems and channels.
  • Define architecture for AI, Generative AI, and Agentic AI capabilities supporting patient engagement, operations, decision support, and digital experiences.
  • Design secure agentic workflows connecting AI agents with patient data, applications, APIs, and business capabilities, including A2A and MCP interoperability patterns.
  • Establish MCP servers that securely expose APIs, tools, data, and business capabilities to authorized AI agents.
  • Apply enterprise AI guardrails and define Patient Experience-specific responsible AI guardrails for solutions involving patient data.
  • Evaluate AI and agent interoperability technologies and determine when agentic, API, event-driven, or traditional integration patterns are appropriate.
  • Ensure designs adhere to enterprise architecture principles, standards, governance, and target-state alignment; partner with Enterprise Architecture on exceptions.
  • Make patient privacy, PHI/PII protection, consent, identity, and regulatory compliance first-class architecture concerns.
  • Design for production-grade availability, resiliency, scalability, observability, and disaster recovery.
  • Lead architecture reviews, maintain current documentation and ADRs, and translate emerging technology into roadmap opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Data, Cybersecurity, Enterprise Architecture, Infrastructure, Patient Services stakeholders, and technology partners.
  • Provide architectural stewardship throughout the solution lifecycle, guide design decisions, and ensure delivered solutions align with approved architecture and engineering standards.
  • Drive technical decisions and alignment across stakeholders with differing priorities.
  • Support technical leads and build architectural depth across the Patient Experience engineering community.
