Digital Architect

Sanofi•Morristown, NJ

About The Position

The Digital Architect will provide hands-on technical leadership for Sanofi’s Patient Experience domain within the Patient Services Domain Architecture team. The team designs and governs the technology backbone for global Patient Support Programs, connecting patients, care teams, specialty pharmacies, and partner services. The architect owns decisions across digital experiences, cloud platforms, integrations, patient data flows, and AI, and guides implementation throughout the solution lifecycle. The role leads end-to-end architecture and the Patient Experience technology roadmap across platforms including AWS, Salesforce, Snowflake, and Informatica/IICS. It establishes reusable integration and data patterns, supports connected patient experiences, and shapes architecture for generative and agentic AI. The architect also ensures alignment with enterprise architecture standards and governance, and designs with patient privacy, security, regulatory compliance, resilience, and scalability in mind. This position collaborates with Product, Engineering, Data, Cybersecurity, Enterprise Architecture, Infrastructure, Patient Services stakeholders, and technology partners. It provides architectural guidance to engineering teams and helps build architectural capability across the Patient Experience engineering community. The role is based in Morristown, New Jersey.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field is preferred, plus at least 5 years of experience in technical architecture or senior engineering roles designing integrations and platforms; alternatively, at least 7 years of such experience.
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect certification is required.
  • Hands-on experience designing secure, resilient, scalable cloud-native solutions on AWS.
  • Deep command of enterprise integration patterns, including API, batch, event-driven, asynchronous messaging, and orchestration across distributed systems.
  • Experience architecting Salesforce integrations or integrations for related CRM or patient engagement platforms.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code such as Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, CDK, or equivalent, integrated with modern CI/CD and DevSecOps practices.
  • Ability to communicate complex architecture clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders and drive decisions across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience working within enterprise architecture governance frameworks, including reference architectures, technology standards, architecture reviews, ADRs, and architecture exception processes.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience integrating data into cloud data platforms such as Snowflake and using enterprise integration tools such as Informatica/IICS or comparable platforms for operational and analytical data integration.
  • Practical understanding of generative AI, LLMs, AI agents, RAG, tool/function calling, and agentic workflows, ideally with implementation experience.
  • Experience with or strong working knowledge of MCP, agent-to-agent architectures, and emerging agent interoperability patterns.
  • Strong grasp of OAuth/OIDC, IAM, API security, encryption, secrets management, and least-privilege design.
  • Experience with the C4 model and architecture modeling tools such as IcePanel.
  • Experience in life sciences, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, Patient Services, or another highly regulated environment handling sensitive patient or health data.
  • Demonstrated commitment to staying technically current, maintaining certifications, and keeping hands-on skills up to date.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end architecture for the Patient Experience domain, translating patient journeys, business capabilities, and regulatory requirements into scalable designs across digital experiences, CRM, cloud applications, integrations, patient data, analytics, and AI.
  • Create hands-on architecture deliverables, including blueprints, current- and target-state architectures, architecture decision records (ADRs), and C4 models.
  • Own and evolve the Patient Experience technology roadmap, including modernization priorities, capability gaps, technical debt, and emerging technology adoption across AWS, Salesforce, Snowflake, Informatica/IICS, and shared enterprise services.
  • Select and apply suitable API-first, event-driven, domain-driven, serverless, and microservices patterns based on business and technical context.
  • Drive platform simplification and reuse by consolidating capabilities, rationalizing applications, and eliminating point-to-point dependencies.
  • Ensure cloud infrastructure is defined and managed through reusable, version-controlled Infrastructure as Code.
  • Architect integrations between Patient Experience platforms, specialty pharmacies, patient service providers, enterprise platforms, and external partners, including hands-on use of AWS Lambda, API Gateway, Step Functions, and SQS/SNS.
  • Establish and govern reusable integration patterns and standards for APIs, events, messaging, orchestration, batch and real-time processing, resiliency, observability, error handling, and lifecycle management.
  • Define reusable APIs, events, and data contracts that support multiple brands, patient programs, and digital experiences.
  • Architect patient data flows across Salesforce, Snowflake, Informatica/IICS, AWS, and external partners for operational workflows, analytics, personalization, and AI use cases.
  • Enable secure sharing of patient interactions, engagement history, consent, and preferences across authorized systems and channels.
  • Define architecture for AI, generative AI, and agentic AI capabilities for patient engagement, Patient Services operations, decision support, and intelligent digital experiences.
  • Design secure agentic workflows that connect AI agents with patient data, applications, APIs, and business capabilities, including patterns for agent-to-agent interoperability and Model Context Protocol (MCP).
  • Establish MCP servers that securely expose APIs, tools, data, and business capabilities to authorized AI agents.
  • Apply enterprise AI guardrails and define Patient Experience-specific guardrails for responsible use of agentic solutions involving patient data.
  • Evaluate emerging AI and agent interoperability technologies and determine when agentic, API, event-driven, or traditional integration patterns are appropriate.
  • Ensure designs adhere to enterprise architecture principles, standards, governance, and target-state alignment; partner with Enterprise Architecture on exceptions.
  • Prioritize patient privacy, PHI/PII protection, consent, identity, and regulatory compliance in architecture decisions.
  • Design for production-grade availability, resiliency, scalability, observability, and disaster recovery.
  • Lead architecture reviews, maintain current documentation and ADRs, and translate emerging technology into actionable roadmap opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Data, Cybersecurity, Enterprise Architecture, Infrastructure, Patient Services stakeholders, and technology partners to align objectives, strategy, and solution design.
  • Provide architectural stewardship throughout the solution lifecycle, guide teams toward solutions aligned with architecture principles and standards, and constructively challenge design decisions when needed.
  • Drive technical decisions across stakeholders with differing priorities while maintaining target-architecture integrity.
  • Partner with engineering teams from design through implementation to ensure delivered solutions align with approved architecture, patterns, and engineering standards.
  • Support technical leads and build architectural depth and capability across the Patient Experience engineering community.
